The Return to Bangpra: The Monkeyless Melee

Tuesday saw the gang once again rolling into Bangpra with clubs in hand and hope in hearts. Perhaps it was the whisper of last week’s glory—or the haunting memory of monkeys judging their swings—but the lads were back for another round.

The skies were moody, the clouds hung low, and the rain made a brief but dramatic cameo. The monkeys, clearly no fans of wet fur, ghosted the scene. The course was soggy in spots, but playable, and spirits were high.

Neale Savery, channeling the spirit of a golf deity (or maybe just had his Weet-Bix that morning), crushed the competition with an unflinching 36 points. Allan Cassi, hot on his trail, gave it a go with 30 points and a grin that said, “Next time, mate.”

Meanwhile, Mark, who had soared like an eagle the week before, gracefully nosedived and set his sights on the prestigious wooden spoon. “Winning is fleeting,” he said, probably. “But the spoon… now that’s eternal.”

And after what felt like a geological era, Neale also snagged a near pin. Miracles do happen!

Thursday Shenanigans at Pattaya Country Club

Enter Thursday, stage left. The battlefield this time? The mighty Pattaya Country Club—with a crowd of 11, the fairways were alive with the sound of hopeful slicing and sunshine with a nice breeze.

Good ol’ Paddy Devereux made a grand reappearance, dusting off the clubs and stepping onto the turf with swagger. The course was cooperative, minus a few rebellious greens that looked like they caught a case of the sniffles.

Willem Lasonder, who had been flying under the radar longer than a stealth bomber, pulled off a stunning 40-point performance. Rob Pentland, locked in a deathmatch for the runner-up spot, barely edged out a pack of contenders using the mystical rite of “count back”, beating Paddy Devereux, Paul Davies and Neale Savery.

Meanwhile, Dave Smith was spotted cradling the spoon, whispering solemn oaths to never let it claim him again.

Near pins? A glittering cast: Paddy, Steve Sturley, and Paul Davies.
