Although cricket has been played in Thailand for many years, it wasn’t until 2010 that a group of enthusiasts started playing in Pattaya. Traditionally a sport played by expatriates it now has developed much more interest in the local Thai community with the success of the Thai National Teams, particularly the Women, who are currently ranked No. 11 in the world in the T20 format.
The Pattaya Cricket Club (PCC) is now well established, they recently moved to their new purpose-built ground inside the fabulous Pattana Sports Resort. It is a fantastic facility and the envy of many cricketers in Thailand. www.pattana.co.th.
PCC are regular participants in the Bangkok 25 Over Cricket League, which is usually played between November and June. In addition to the busy league schedule PCC participate in the indoor cricket league at Rugby International School and host several friendly and social fixtures to cater for all abilities.
The highlights of their busy calendar include the long established Chiangmai Cricket Sixes held around Easter since 1988 and the Chiang Mai Eights in February, both at the picturesque Chiang Mai Gymkhana Club. The PCC Super 8’s tournament, usually held in June each year, but postponed until November to now be a curtain raiser for the new league season will see the top 6 teams in Thailand compete at the home of PCC. And finally, the annual Beach Cricket tournament in Koh Chang in August at the Siam Royal View beach is always a club favourite.
The Club has recently embarked on an ambitious project to build a practice net facility on Siam Country Club Road, behind the Outback Bar. Now nearing completion, it will provide a facility from which the club will offer coaching sessions to established cricketers and beginners. An exciting part of this project is the planned Junior Development Program which will involve both Thai and Expat kids and judging from the success of similar programs in Chiangmai and Koh Chang it should prove very popular.
Pattaya Sports Club is proud to be a part of this project and wish the club every success.
Social fixtures for cricketers of all abilities and ages are arranged throughout the year, so if you want to get involved in at any level please contact Captain Simon Philbrook at Chairman@pattayacricketclub.com.
