A chaotic start to the day at the Sports Lounge, with the bar full, the Super Bowl on extremely loud, a bigger than expected turnout for Mountain Shadow, two regular drivers short, and not being able to book a minibus at such short notice made for some serious stress for the organiser. Fortunately by using two BOLTS we were able to get everybody to and from the course. Our problems were compounded by people turning up late and one driver departing with only two passengers.

Most people expressed satisfaction with the course, but a wind sometimes very strong made for difficult conditions, and being a medal round also didn’t help. Scoring was modest at best with nobody really excelling. Just the same it was tight at the top of the leaderboard with only five points separating first from sixth. All the near pins were taken as listed

Near pins Alan Sullivan X 2, & Rob Folland X 2.

A very busy day at the Navy Course, as it was a Buddha Day every man and his dog were at the course, that’s not as daft as it sounds, there were a great number of canines also on the course, all looking very healthy and friendly until a troupe of monkeys appeared, then all hell broke loose for a time until the monkeys disappeared. With so many golfers on the course we were allowed to share one caddie and cart per every two golfers with a two hundred baht discount which made for a very cheap round. As expected the pace of play was pedestrian but not as bad as we have experienced elsewhere.

The course was in reasonable shape, the North and West nines are usually not in too bad a shape. The Bristol Bears no one supporter had a day out buoyed by England’s win over France at the weekend. His thirty-seven points was enough to push Bil Richardson into second place by a stroke. Derek Stephenson took third with Frazer Davey edging out Gerry Cooney on countback for fourth. Monopoly was the game with the near pins, Alan Sullivan took two and Rob Folland also took two.

All is in readiness for the big Friday Memorial Competition where at Treasure Hill we have six individual places and two team prizes for which to compete. Forty players are already registered to play with at least two reserves on standby in case of any late withdrawals. A big night is planned for the after match function at And Again Bar on Soi Buakhao where players and guests will be treated to sumptuous repast.

Except in exceptional circumstances, every year The Bunker Boys play a competition to commemorate the memory of those departed. Fortunately, we haven’t had to add any more names to the trophy this year. The event started as the John Preddy Memorial but for reasons unknown that competition faded away, so The Bunker Boys continued on the tradition by starting their own memorial. A full house of forty players signed up for this year’s event, we even had a couple on standby in case of any dropouts. The competition was played at the Treasure Hill course, possibly the most difficult course on our roster.

With such a big field half the players started off the back nine so that we finished in a respectable time

An outstanding round of forty-two points from Bil Richardson saw him take the trophy by a five-point margin, it’s rare to see that type of score at Treasure Hill. The rest of the scoring was quite close with only two points separating second to sixth as listed, there was even a further score of thirty-five points from Mike Milland, unfortunately he submitted an incorrectly marked card, clearly no cross checking with his marker, an unfortunate slip-up. Near pins and team places as listed.

A good night’s fun was had back at Rob Folland’s “And Again Bar”, this time we had hot food provided by Pattini Restaurant.
