We visited Silky Oak for the first time this year on what started off as a wet day which caused a very slight delay in our 4 groups teeing off. There is always a bit of a dilemma in what tees to play off and we decided to hit off the yellows which, at the end of the day, was the correct choice. Silky Oak had suffered heavy rain during the previous day and night resulting in no run. There were many holes with long carries over water from the tees and with no obvious drop zones, we were vindicated in selecting the yellow tees.
Only 3 of our 15 players managed to break par with John Coetzee, Paul Tidy and Glen Elsworth all scoring 38 points. John`s 20 points on the back 9 saw him top the list with Paul taking second place. Glen probably should have triumphed having scored 37 points after 16 holes. Steve Mabbett completed the podium.
Highlight of the day was when Steve Mabbett and Dave Boyes both put their approach shots into the same bunker at the par 4, 5th hole. Two young dogs approached the bunker and one went into the bunker and had a sniff at Steve`s ball. He decided that Dave`s was best the option and promptly picked it up and ran off back down the fairway being chased by the caddies. Dave`s response was to turn to Steve and tell him that if he cleaned his balls then the dog would have taken his ball!
