Bunker Boys Golf report for the week commencing Monday June8th

Monday, June 8th

Pattaya Country Club

1st Uwe Jurgensen (28) 38 points

2nd Frazer Davy (12) 36 points

3rd Sean Murphy (22) 35 points

Near pins Sam Gershon, & Geoff Williams

After a long absence we made a return to Pattaya Country Club today and found the course in pristine condition following a weekend competition. A number of enhancements have been made to the course since our last visit,  several flower beds, shrubs, trees, and even a couple of cabanas have been added. At seventeen hundred baht all-in it represented great value using a voucher,  could it be courses are finally waking up to the reality of low season  although it seems they make it unnecessarily difficult to avail of special deals. Scoring was not up to scratch today with only Uwe Jurgensen returning a decent score of thirty-eight points, Uwe has his sights set on golfer of the month and is a clear leader at this stage. In his first game since retiring to Pattaya Frazer Davy had a solid round of thirty-six with Sean Murphy one stroke further back. Disappointingly only two near pins were taken with several fighting over the same two holes.

Sam Gershon made one of his many visits to Pattaya this week, Sam on many of his visits takes some of the most circuitous routes to get here and back, last visit he returned to Hawaii  via Sydney and Los Angeles,  all that dedication for a near pin, there must be something he is not telling us.

Pattavia

1st Rob Folland (19) 42 points

2nd Kevin LaBar (16) 38 points

3rd Tony Robbins (28) 32 points

Near pins Steve Kilner, Kevin LaBar, & Michael Brett.

A curious day in many ways today at Pattavia.  We arrived for our 11.00 o’clock tee time to be told that a very large group of people would be teeing off at midday on a shotgun start, quite how that was going to work left us scratching our collective heads. We were told to tee off on ten despite there being nobody on the first hole.  Furthermore we were told to wait for the group on the ninth tee to go ahead of us on the tenth. As luck would have it once that group got away the rain tumbled down so we remained dry in the shelter on the tenth tee.

Once we started we got around the back nine in good time,  however when we got back to the first we found at least five six balls ahead of us which went down like a lead balloon, needless to say play became a grind for the whole nine.

Having endured some serious ribing over recent weeks for his nineteen handicap,  it only intensified today for Rob Folland after he swept all before him with a winning score of forty-two points. Kevin LaBar was sure he had done enough to win but had to settle for second place which on any other day would be enough to win with thirty-eight points. A long way back on thirty-two points Tony Robbins took third place. The bulk of the group had disappointing scores. Nobody was able to claim the long sixteenth par three,  the other three were as listed.

Friday June 12th

Pleasant Valley

1st Kevin LaBar (15) 39 points

2nd Michael Brett (16) 39 points

3rd Alan Sullivan (17) 39 points

Near pins.Kevin LaBar,  Alan Sullivan,  & Michael Brett.

Pleasant Valley was at its best today, despite recent rain the course was in fine condition apart from a couple of wet areas. We played pick, clean, & place although it was hardly needed,  had carts been allowed on the fairways we probably would not have.

Pace of play was good until the middle of the back nine when we ran up against a group of people who could barely play,  one spent his time about one hundred yards back from his partners on his phone.

As we left Pattaya the sky in the distance looked very ominous but it cleared up to be quite a nice day.

Scoring was on a par with what one would expect and very tight at the top. Three shared top spot separated on countback as listed. For the third time this week not all the near pins were taken,  to be fair the one that missed out was the most difficult,  the fifth. The motorcycle that has been on offer now for almost a year remains unclaimed,  a hole in one on this hole is a real challenge.

Today we had an unexpected visit from Kai Shah who had an unhappy experience with us on his last visit, not least suffering an anafalyctic shock from a hornet sting, fortunately today’s visit was much more enjoyable, twenty-one on the front nine was testament to that, unfortunately the back nine was not soo good. Uwe Jurgensen is still in good shape for golfer of the month with another good score today of thirty-seven.

Winner at Pattaya Country Club Uwe Jurgensen

Winner at Pattavia Rob Folland

Winner at Pleasant Valley Kevin LaBar.
