It was back to Greenwood for our monthly scramble and the question many were asking was if Nigel Henson and Mike Tottenham would be displaced as current holders. There were some strong teams and with the Aussie / Italian duo of Vito Cirelli and Livio Marrone competing, many thought they would be favourites bearing in mind their performance at Pattaya Country Club the previous day. Other strongly fancied pairings were Paul Tidy and Jim Miller as well as Phil Penney and Russell Blatchford.
As it happened, no pairing was going to displace the current champions who, although struggled initially, came roaring back in the back 9 to come home with a 3 under par 33 to finish with a level par 72 which equated to a net score of 63.75. Their nearest challengers were the Penney / Blatchford combination who bogeyed the first 3 holes and parred the next 15 to post a net 66.25. It was a splendid effort bearing in mind the C and A nines were playing long. Livio and Vito never hit the high spots we were expecting and although Paul and Jim also started slowly, they came good to finish in 3rd place with a net 69.50.
RESULTS:
1st Place Nigel Henson – Mike Tottenham (8.25) – 63.75
2nd Place Phil Penney / Russell Blatchford (8.75) – 66.25
