GREENWOOD
On Tuesday we headed out with a small but motivated group of five players to Greenwood, taking on the A & B loops. The weather was kind to us — overcast skies and a cool breeze made it a pleasant day for golf.
We also took time to admire the renovation work around the facilities. The improvements are impressive and a real step forward for the course.
The course itself played long and wasn’t quite at the standard we’re used to. The greens in particular have lost some quality, making scoring a challenge. Still, it was an enjoyable round in good company.
Neil Harvey was the standout performer of the day, posting an excellent 38 Stableford points. Nigel Irving claimed second place with 33 points, edging out Willem Lasonder on countback.
No near pins or spoon were played.
PLEASANT VALLEY
On Thursday we again teed off with just five players at Pleasant Valley. The turnout was low, as our English friends didn’t appear after their disappointing football night.
The day began overcast, but by midday the sun broke through and it quickly turned into a hot one. The course was in reasonable condition, though Pleasant Valley always presents its challenges. No one managed to play to their handicap.
It was David Lyon’s day — steady, consistent golf earned him the win with 33 Stableford points. John Dean followed closely behind, taking second place with 32 points.
