An unsettling trip to the course today with what looked like a fatal accident on frontage rd where a motorcycle went under a truck, not ideal preparation for a game of golf.
The course was very quiet today like many lately, it seems that just about all courses are struggling for numbers, no doubt we will pay the price for it come high season.
Once again we were allocated the A & B nine and finished the round in just over three hours.
As always the course was in excellent condition, the greens were slower than the practice green which took a bit of getting used to. After a couple of mediocre rounds lately reigning golfer of the month Rob Folland returned to his best taking first place with forty points, his driving was superb and he only missed one put all day. After a couple of weeks away in rural Thailand Bil Richardson returned to the fold today to take second place with thirty-seven points two ahead of Michael Brett in third place. The near pins were as listed.
After the heroics of last week Alan Sullivan had to settle for putting a few times more than his last game with a couple of three puts. Spare a thought for Kiwi golfer Danny Lee who recently had six puts on one hole. Even the pro’s have off days. Expect free scoring for the rest of the week with high scoring Bangpakong Riverside and Pattaya Country Club on the schedule.
Wednesday July 15th
Bangpakong Riverside
1st Takeshi Hakozaki (16) 44 points
2nd Walter Baechli (20) 37 points
3rd Bil Richardson (19) 34 points
Near pins. Takeshi Hakozaki, Rob Folland, & Bil Richardson.
Bangpakong Riverside was the venue for today’s midweek round. The course whilst fine to play was not as good as we have come to expect, many of the fairways had large areas of no grass, others had recently been returfed and marked as g u r.
The course was not busy, however our lead group ran up against a slow five ball so they jumped from the sixth to the eight and were not held up thereafter.
Normally a windy course, today it was particularly so and as usual the wind rarely favoured us.
Today’s winner Takeshi Hakozaki got off to a flyer and never looked back with twenty two points on both the front and back, once again the secret was the putter, knocking them in from everywhere. Second place went to Walter Baechli with 37 points. Bil Richardson took third with thirty-four points. Near pins as listed.
Friday July 17th
Pattaya Country Club
1st Rob Folland (17) 36 points
2nd Bil Richardson (19) 33 points
3rd Michael Brett (16) 29 points.
Near pins Frazer Davy, & Bil Richardson X 3.
Yet another windy day for the last game of the week at Pattaya Country Club where we found a course surprisingly busy compared to others, clearly their special offer of fifteen hundred baht all-in was irresistible to many. Each online voucher allows five players to play at the special price, however they are only single use so soon we may have to pay the full amount.
As always the course was in excellent condition but the wind played its part in keeping scores modest.
Second time this week Rob Folland took the honours with thirty-six points, is he going to win golfer of the month again? Second place went to Bil Richardson, this time without his driving iron having broken the shaft at Bangpakong Riverside for the third time this year. Only twenty-nine points was enough to take third. Without his favourite club Bil dominated the near pins taking three with one other going to Frazer Davy.
Winner at Burapha and Pattaya Country Club, Rob Folland.
Winner at Bangpakong Riverside Takeshi Hakozaki.
