KIWIS POLISH OFF ROYAL LAKESIDEKIWIS POLISH OFF ROYAL LAKESIDE.

Wednesday saw us travel up to Royal Lakeside with 4 groups. We were very lucky to be able to play there at all because of the dreadful weather that Royal Lakeside had been subjected to over the past few days. The fairways were very wet with very little run, however, in saying that, it did not detract from what is an excellent golf course. Despite the heavy rain that the course had suffered, the greens were in excellent condition.

We started the round in bright sunshine which continued for about an hour and a half. You could see the dark clouds gathering overhead and by the time the leading groups were on the 9th hole, the heavens opened. As is the norm however, after about 30 minutes the rain abated and we continued on our way in perfect sunshine.

Although the underfoot conditions were very wet, it did not detract from some excellent scoring with 10 handicapper Kiwi Allan Smith scorching round in 44 points. Allan very nearly became the first Olde Rogues player to record an albatross when his second shot at the par 5 18th hole lipped out to 6 foot. He promptly sunk his eagle putt to complete what was a 2 over par round.

Fellow Kiwi Tony Cliff claimed second place with 37 points followed by John Browning and Jim Miller. Royal Lakeside is without doubt one of the finest courses on our schedule and we are delighted to say that with high season just around the corner, there is only a minimal increase in their rates.
