On Friday The Olde Rogues took 7 groups to Pattavia for their monthly 2 man scramble in what was another great day full of laughter and good golf. It was a busy day at the course but once again, the Pattavia starter was very good to us giving us a 2-tee start.
It was probably one of the hardest days we have had at Pattavia with a strong wind and fast greens making life difficult for our 28 players. Despite the tricky conditions, the scoring was very good with 7 pairings shooting under 70. Heading the list however was the Edinburgh duo of Garry Chrystal and Garry Lyon. The two Garry`s are huge Hearts fans – for those of you who don`t know who Hearts are, they are an Edinburgh footie team – not a very good one it has to be said – but affectionately known as the Jambos. They came in with a net score of 66.75 which was just enough to beat Phil Heath and Ben Gray on a countback. Coming in a close 3rd was Glenn Elsworth and John Carlton. Glenn and John teamed up against their respective partners, Maey and Vero and although the ladies performed well, the bragging rights went to Glenn and John.
We were happy to welcome new members in Rana Gurnam, Paul Tidy and Nick Looby Paul and Nick took the other podium place with a net 68 which equated to a level par round of gross 72. It was a sad farewell to John Coetzee who is soon to return home. John won`t mind me telling everyone that he is 82 years old and during his stay, he topped the leader board on 3 occasions. Have a safe trip home my friend and thank you for playing with us.
