Another split week for the Bunker Boys with seventeen making the trip North for the first game of the week at  Royal Hills while the resident group played local courses. A big day of driving for the travelers with a three-hour drive to Royal Hills followed by another one-and-a-half drive after golf to Kabin Buri.

Several of the group had not been to Royal Hills previously and were impressed with the course and the surrounding scenery. Safe to say they were not distracted by either with the winners returning very good numbers for such a difficult course, results as above.

Tuesday, February 20th

Kabin Buri Country Club

1st Robby Watts (10) 35 points

2nd Bil Richardson (16) 34 points

3rd Ross Schiffke (24) 34 points

4th Mike Milland (19) 33 points

Near Pins Niall Glover, Bil Richardson, Kob Glover, & Rob Folland.

Having enjoyed the hospitality at the Serenity Resort and Spa overnight most were well-rested and ready to take on the longest golf course in Thailand, however, a couple may have overdone the relaxation a bit and looked very dusty the next day, its rumoured Jim Beam got a good workout.

The Kabin Buri course was surprisingly damp given the time of year and playing off the white tees at over six thousand six hundred yards proved a real challenge, once again results as listed. With Mike Milland and Ross Schiffke appearing in the winners circle two days in a row there were howls of cut, cut, cut to their respective handicaps, one was seen musing over whether or not they might need a dose of Mogadon to sleep at night. Regardless both fronted up bright-eyed and bushy tailed next day hoping for more of the same.

Wednesday, February 21st

Lotus Valley

1st Hubert Stiefenhofer (18) 36 points

2nd Colin Greig (14) 32 points

3rd Mike Milland (19) 32 points

Near pins Kevin LaBar, Hubert Stiefenhofer, Rob Folland, & Les Cobban.

Another long day of driving, with over a two-hour drive from Kabin Buri to Lotus Valley followed by another two-hour-plus drive back to Pattaya after golf, a real tax on the concentration powers of drivers, one feels that this is a trip that won’t be repeated, logistically it doesn’t fit well together.

Today we played a shorter tee length which was just as well as once the course was damp underfoot, in fact, some suggested pick, clean, and place would have been a good option, remarkable given we are in the middle of the dry season. A very relieved Hubert Stiefenhoffer returned to form today with a winning thirty-six points. Colin Greig beat Mike Milland on countback for second. Again all the near pins were taken going to Kevin LeBar who was enjoying his first away trip with the Bunker Boys, Hubert Stiefenhofer, Rob Folland, & Les Cobban. A smaller-than-expected group today with some still not enjoying life to the full due to overindulgence.

Stay-at-home group

Monday 19th

Those that didn’t travel played at Greenwood on Monday where some remarkably good scores were carded, none better than Roger Tuohy with forty-two points, twenty-five on the back. Roger is enjoying his best-ever spell of golf this trip. Jon Dean took second on countback with just one point to third occupied by Graham Davis. A countback also for fourth and fifth where Keith Hemmings beat Frazer Davy, both with thirty-seven. Near pins went to Danny Miller, Neil Jones, Pat Ryan, and Frazer Davy.

Wednesday 21st

A large group of twenty-seven made the trip to Emerald where a shabby course and slow play took any pleasure there might have been out of the game. A very good turnout with so many regulars away. Jon Dean backed up his forty-two points of Monday with another forty-two again today, great consistency. Geoff Parker had a very tidy thirty-seven points taking second, beating Sam Reid on countback. Gerry Cooney can still put it all together despite his advancing years and took fourth with thirty-six points, well done Gerry. Andy Winterburn and Mab Jiwa finished in that order on countback with thirty-five points. Graham Davis and Ian Flannigan got a near pin each with Greg Berry taking two.

Friday 23rd February

1st Geoff Parker (22) 40 points

2nd Jon Dean (14) 36 points

3rd Kob Glover (13) 35 points

4th Neil Griffin (27) 35 points

5th Sunny Khanna (13) 34 points

6th Tony Robbins (25) 34 points

Near pins Ian Flannigan, Danny Miller, & Jon Dean.

Another good roll-up for today’s game at Pattavia where the course was considered to be in good condition, with the greens much slower than on previous visits. The spate of very good scores of late seems unending with yet another lot of fine scores. With only two games left in the golfer of the month, the competition is very keen indeed and it wouldn’t surprise if a new monthly record was established this month as several players are in hot form, and with Greenwood one of next week’s venues where high scores are common its anybody’s guess who will take the prize. Kob Glover, Jon Dean, Roger Tuohy, and Geoff Parker are locked in a real dogfight to see who will come up trumps. Under the circumstances, countbacks are part of every winner’s list as was the case again today, twice this time with all scores as listed.

Roger Tuohy, is in fine form on this trip.

Geoff Parker revisits his former glory.
