Bunker Boys Golf Report Monday October 16th

Bunker Boys Golf Report for the week commencing Monday October 16th.

Monday, October 16th

Treasure Hill

1st Greg Berry (15) 34 points

2nd Gary Smith (5) 31 points

3rd Michael Brett (16) 29 points

Near pins Bil Richardson, Greg Berry & Michael Brett

Even though we are not yet in high season it somehow feels like it with slow play being the order of the day again today. We were out behind another Pattaya Society who for whatever reason seemed to play at a glacial pace and hold up the rest of the course.

The golf course was in good condition and the weather was fine if a bit hot and humid. The speed of play coupled with the difficulty of the course made for low scores, some people simply lose concentration when forced to wait on every shot on every hole, even the low handicappers failed to fire today. Having been on the winner’s list twice last week Greg Berry carried on today where he left off on Friday top scoring with thirty-four points. Gary Smith took second place on thirty-one with Michael Brett third with twenty-nine points. Once again a near pin went unclaimed on the second hole, the others went to Greg Berry, Bil Richardson, and Michael Brett.

As we near the end of the monsoon season we have done remarkably well being minimally affected by the weather with no game cancelled, can get get through to the end in the same vein?

Wednesday, October 18th

Eastern Star

1st Frank Tordeur (15) 38 points

2nd Kob Glover (16) 38 points

3rd Paul Smith (3) 34 points

4th Craig Dows (3) 33 points

Near pins Niall Glover, John Soo, & Craig Dows X 2.

It’s never a good idea to tempt fate, on Monday we reflected on how lucky we had been with the weather over the monsoon season, today that all changed. After just two holes the rain came pelting down forcing a twenty-minute delay in play. Just as we resumed play it came down again with greater intensity forcing a forty-minute stoppage. With black skies all around and the prospect of a long delay in store, a couple decided to pull up stumps and retire, the rest stayed the course and finished in relatively fine conditions.

Despite the difficulty posed by the course and the conditions a couple of very good scores were returned. On debut with the Bunker Boys Frank Tordeur took first place with thirty-eight points beating Kob Glover into second on countback. Paul Smith took third place with thirty-four points and Craig Dows got the final spot on the leaderboard a further stroke back. Another newcomer John Soo took a near pin along with Niall Glover with Craig Dows taking two.

With rain just about every day we now look like getting our quota of monsoonal rain albeit later than normal. Everybody will be busy on Thursday drying out their gear with the hope we can get through Friday’s game dry.

The last game of the week was played at Greenwood on the C & B nines. We were due to play medal, however, it was changed to Stableford due to concerns the course may be very wet due to recent heavy rain, as it turned out the course was in remarkably good condition. A good field of nineteen was on hand and with the course virtually empty we finally got to enjoy a game at a respectable pace with no holdups.

An outstanding score of forty-one points saw Neil Jones take first place in the winner’s circle. A full four strokes back saw Niall Glover take second place to continue a good run in the golfer of the month competition. Michael Brett faltered on the closing holes but still had enough to take third with thirty-five points. Greg Berry rounded out the winners’ circle in fourth place with thirty-four points. Near pins were shared between Gary Smith, Craig Dows, Paul Smith, and Jimmy Carr who got particularly close to a hole-in-one.

Greg Berry, winner at Treasure Hill.

Frank Tordeur, winner at Eastern Star.
