It’s always a pleasure to play the beautiful Bangpakong Riverside course as it was today on St Patrick’s Day. As usual the course was in very nice condition, never a bad lie on the fairways, bunkers well manicured, and greens that ran true and at a nice speed.
Either through bad course management or some false shots a couple of players who threatened to score well fell away, the only one to hold it together was Bil Richardson who registered a very fine score of forty-two. Tony Robbins, one of those who threatened, had to settle for second place, having promised much more on the front nine. Les Cobban took third on countback from Jimmy Carr. All the near pins were taken with Bil Richardson taking two, and one each to Jimmy Carr and Les Cobban, all of them were in the same group, anybody suspicious?
Could it be that we have finally seen the end of high season pricing, to day we had a happy surprise with a discount on the published all-in fee, taking it under two thousand baht. Rumours abound about clubs now starting to discount their fees so we may soon see a more diverse roster

A very pleasant day for golf at the aptly named Pleasant Valley course, the weather was nice and not too hot, and the course was in very fine condition. It feels like we finally have arrived at low season with fees coming down particularly from next month on, and courses not crowded as before. We had a nice round without any hold-ups and finished in good time.
As seems to be the case lately someone has an exceptional round, today it was the turn of Michael Brett who finally got a few putts to drop and scored forty-three points. Three people were locked together on thirty-eight points and separated on countback as listed. A couple of good near pins today with some close ones missing out, Frazer Davy took two as did Michael Brett.
Preparations are underway for the next away trip to Kanchanaburi to escape the madness of Pattaya during Songkran, many could tolerate a day or two of water splashing but ten days of it starts to grate. Anybody planning to avail of this trip should make their intentions known to Colin Greig as soon as possible. A good playing roster has been organised on the best courses in the region including Grand Prix, Artittaya, and Evergreen Hills.

Just when we thought the high season was over, along came twenty-eight golfers for the last game of the week at Mountain Shadow..
The course was in just about the best condition anyone can remember for a long time. fairways green and well grassed, greens quite good, if there was a complaint it was the bunkers, nevertheless at twelve hundred and fifty baht it was excellent value. There was an issue with a lack of caddies so those with caddies jumped ahead of those listed to play before them. With several more visitors leaving over the weekend we may finally be back to low season conditions again.
A strong blustery wind made a normally difficult course even more challenging, nevertheless scores were decent.
With a remarkable twenty-six points on the back nine Mike Milland took first place on countback from Jimmy Carr.who had to review his scorecard after the game. This was Mike’s last game of this tour and what a way to bow out? In true Danish tradition Mike rang the bell back at the bar.Third place went to Michael Brett, one ahead of Mike Lloyd also in his last game possibly depending on how quickly Heathrow can get back to full operation again. As usual Steve Downes gets a mention in sixth place with thirty-two points to go with his usual near pin. Billy Shepley and Mike Lloyd got the other near pins with one unclaimed.
Four more games to go in the search for a winner in the golfer of the month chase, it’s close at the top so who will take it out?
Bil Richardson, winner at Bangpakong Riverside.
Winner at Pleasant Valley Michael Brett.
Winner at Mountain Shadow Mike Milland.
