Anything but a pleasant day today at Pleasant Valley. It tried to rain several times but luckily stayed away, that was fortunate as it hammered down in Pattaya. Being a public holiday the course was totally full with people on every hole, some in groups of eight or more, and all seemed very slow, some showed all the urgency of a skinhead searching for a comb, nevertheless we got it done by about four
p m.
A very mixed bag in the scoring department with a range of scores from forty to one under twenty, not sure how to explain that. Top score of the day went to Alan Sullivan with a very creditable forty points Dave Galvin continued on his merry way taking second place with thirty-six points, but no near pin again today. Les Cobban was a further stroke back and Hubert who had a bad day with the putter took fourth. All the near pins were taken, again those in the winners circle figured prominently with three winners taking one, Ross Schiffke being the exception.
The treat of the month awaits on Wednesday when we play The Vintage.
Wednesday, April 9th
The Vintage
1st Hubert Stiefenhofer (16) 33 points
2nd Dominique Pujol (28) 32 points
3rd Dave Galvin (22) 29 points
Near pins John Webb, Lance Conway-Jones, and Hubert Stiefenhofer.
The Vintage course normally in beautiful condition was less than perfect today with some extensive bare areas on some of the fairways. Free drops were allowed from those areas so they didn’t affect the game. The greens were lightning fast and holding the ball on them proved a real challenge for most, even catching out a few people trying to judge the required speed.
Unsurprisingly the more we play Vintage the less arduous the drive to and from the course seems to be, today was a breeze with light traffic in both directions.
Normally a high scoring course today was quite the opposite, two players between them consigned nine balls to a watery grave, in fact several more balls were in water, but some were recovered.
Hubert Stiefenhofer was the only to post any sort of score, in fact with a little luck with the putter his score could have been significantly better, as it was thirty-three was the top score. Second place and first time in the winners circle went to Dominique Pujot in his second last game with us, can he make it all the way to the top on Friday? Needless to say Dave Galvin who has stopped taking near pins has now graduated to the winners circle just about every time he plays, today taking third place. Lance Conway-Jones and Hubert Stiefenhofer took near pins as did John Webb, his first of this tour.

Greenwood. C & B.
1st Rob Folland (14) 36 points
2nd Colin Greig (16) 36 points
3rd Hubert Stiefenhofer (16) 34 points
Near pins Rob Folland, & Michael Brett.
Our scheduled game at Treasure Hill today was transferred to Greenwood C & B as Treasure Hill hosted a competition. All went well until the ninth hole when the rain which had been threatening came down in torrents forcing all to run for shelter. Very quickly the course was flooded and it didn’t look very promising for future play, however after a thirty minute delay the rain stopped and play resumed. It was remarkable the course which had been flooded minutes before was now fit to play, the drainage at Greenwood was superb.
Some handled the conditions better than others with Rob Folland edging out Colin Greig on countback, both on thirty-six points. Colin’s shoulder obviously must have been ok today. Hubert Stiefenhofer took third. Only two near pins today, one within a whisker of an ace to Micheel Brett ,after seventy-five years time is running out to get one, the other went to Rob Folland.
In his last game of this tour Dave Galvin did his best impersonation of the hunchback of Notre Dame by constantly ringing the bell back at the bar (jaidee mak mak) , always a pleasure to have Dave at the Bunker and we look forward to his next visit. Also the last game for Dominique Pujot, his first visit to the Bunker Boys and hopefully not his last as he was a joy to host, we don’t get many visitors from Saudi Arabia.
Winner at Pleasant Valley, Alan Sullivan.
Winner at The Vintage Hubert Stiefenhofer.
Winner at Greenwood, Rob Folland
