The Olde Rogues took 32 players to play in their monthly scramble at Pattavia on what was a very busy day. It was an eventful start to the day after 2 of our players in the leading group were taken to the 10th tee. Apparently one of the caddies thought this would be a good idea! They were hastily called back to the 1st and we got away on time. More drama unfolded when one of our group was run over by an over enthusiastic caddy!
As has been mentioned many times, the greens at Pattavia are probably the hardest on the circuit with the fast undulating surfaces meaning that placement should be a prime consideration. All said and done, Pattavia is one of our favourite courses with every hole having a challenge to overcome.
The drama was to continue when Alan Penny holed out with a 9 iron at the 127 yard 13th hole to secure his 1st hole in one. It turned out to be a pivotal moment as he and his partner Fern, went on to take first place after playing the front 9 in a 5 over par 41 but coming home with a 2 under par score of 34. It was the first time a mixed team had won our scramble and they were very popular winners back at the presentation. Runners-up were Vito Cirelli and Livio Marrone who grossed a 1 under par score of 71 – a splendid effort at a very demanding golf course. The remaining place went to Paul Longstaff and Billy Buchanan who took 3rd place in front of Nigel Henson and Robert Cha.
Thanks has to go to the management of Pattavia for putting together a certificate to mark Alan`s achievement and providing refreshments to salute the achievement and also to the unfortunate Keith Melbourne for his help in starting the players off and collecting the cards. I say unfortunate because Keith was the victim of the hit and run. I should also mention that there is no truth in the rumour that Vic Hansen ordered the hit.
RESULTS:
1st Place Fern and Alan Penny (10.00) – 65
2nd Place Vitio Cirelli / Livio Marrone (4.75) – 66.25
3rd Place Paul Longstaff / Billy Buchanan (9.00) – 67
4th Place Nigel Henson / Robert Cha (5.25) – 67.75
Hole in One Prize – Alan Penny
