We took 10 groups, 37 golfers, to Royal Lakeside on Monday and before giving the lowdown on the day`s golf, we must say a huge thank you to Royal Lakeside on their excellent scheduling for us. Originally, we were told to start at the 10th but after pointing out that this might cause huge problems, the decision was reverted and all 10 groups started from the 1st tee. The two Korean groups ahead of us, who, it has to be said, kept up a good pace of play, had started at the 10th so by the time out first group reached the 9th green they had a clear run. Our first 3 groups went around in just under 3-1/2 hours.
It also has to be said that Royal Lakeside is, without doubt, one of the finest courses on our schedule and with PSC discount, a bargain. The course was in immaculate condition with knowledgeable caddies and helpful staff. Before leaving, we managed to re-schedule our February events to include Royal Lakeside.
As for the golf, we had 2 flights today with Nigel Henson coming back onto form winning `A` flight with 39 points. He edged ahead of Steve Mabbett by means of a better back 9. In `B` flight, it was Young Min Ko`s friend, Lin, who headed the flight with 36 points.
At the presentation, we were happy to celebrate the birthday of our favourite Frenchman, Jean-Louis Goergen but also bid a sad farewell to Andy Southworth and Ian Duers.
