The Links crew teed it up at the ever-picturesque Royal Lakeside today, where the fairways are wide, the greens are slick, and the excuses are always plentiful.
On top of the pile – after a countback battle worthy of VAR – was Simon “the Shark” Niven (14) with 35 points. Some say he won it with style; others say it was blind luck. Either way, he’ll take it.
Hot on his heels was Werner “the Bomber” Leten (21), also on 35, who was last seen mumbling something about how golf is a cruel mistress. Malcolm “Steady Eddie” Newstead (20) slipped into third with a solid 34 points, proving once again that consistency beats brilliance (especially when brilliance stays in the clubhouse bar).
Jim Martin (14) gave the scorers a little extra work with 33 points, while Kev “never short of a word” Dewer (13) rounded things out on 32, still smiling despite what the scorecard said.
For the sharpshooters, Tom Ard nailed the near pin on the 4th, while winner Simon Niven helped himself to yet another prize on the 13th. Not a bad day for Simon – some might say he peaked too early for the karaoke later on.
All in all, another cracking day out with plenty of laughs, a few golf shots worth remembering, and even more best forgotten.
