On Wednesday we took 6 groups to the magnificent Royal Lakeside. Yes, it is a bit farther away but for golfing excellence it is hard to beat. Maurie Denton will soon be returning to Australia and sponsored some extra prizes. Maurie, along with John Coey and Pat Treacy have been great supporters of the Olde Rogues and are great company. We wish them well. Another soon to be departing is the Olde Rogues / Snug head entertainer Craig `Elvis` Ovenden. Craig, although not a golfer, is a regular at The Olde Rogues and Snug and puts on a great show.
As for the golf, Glen Elsworth set the ball rolling when he came in with 43 points. Glen is renowned for being a big hitter the big difference at Royal Lakeside is that the ball was going straight!! He was 3 under par after 4 holes which for a 12 handicapper is an extraordinary feat especially in tricky conditions. With one group to come in, Glen looked a certain winner. It wasn’t to be however as Ian Fraser came hurtling down the finishing line – maybe a slight exaggeration when you consider that Ian is a portly mid 70`s gentleman – and posted 44 points. Nevertheless, it was a splendid effort and both players should be congratulated on some outstanding golf. Not surprisingly, Ian won the award for the least number of putts.
