Monday April 27th
Khao Kheow B & C
1st Alan Sullivan (16) 37 points
2nd Paul Smith (2) 30 points
3rd Walter Baechli (20) 30 points
Near pins Colin Greig X 3
Khao Kheow is another club undergoing major renovations with the reception area, shop, restaurant, and much of the changing rooms closed, so we watch with interest how it evolves. Despite the disruption to services there was no reduction in the fees.
We were allocated the B & C nines and had the course virtually to ourselves. Rain which threatened for most of the front nine finally hit on the back nine bringing with it thunder and lightning forcing a fifteen minutes delay in a shelter.
Only Alan Sullivan was able to master the course, taking first place with thirty-seven points. A countback to decide second place with Paul Smith taking it by a point on the back nine from Walter Baechli. Once again Colin Greig dominated the near pins taking three with one unclaimed.
We were scheduled to play Vintage on Wednesday but there was very little appetite for the trip to Samut Prakan so the game was cancelled, making today the last game of the month. As usual the golfer of the month is decided on the last day of play. This time we didn’t have far to look to find the winner. A record monthly tally of two hundred and thirty nine points, a full seven higher than the previous best, saw Colin Greig take his second trophy this year. Will this new mark ever be beaten? it will take a huge effort from somebody, but records are made to be broken, who knows who or when if ever it will happen.
Friday May 1st
Hermes
1st Michael Brett (15) 33 points
2nd Hubert Stiefenhofer (19) 32 points
3rd Paul Smith (2) 30 points
Near pins Paul Smith, Alan Sullivan, & Colin Greig
Every visit to Hermes brings a wry smile to the faces of the Bunkers Boys who are listed on the running order in the reception area as the Banger Boys. Is it a Freudian slip or do they know something about some of the Bunker Boys after golf exploits?
A tough day at Hermes to start a new month of golf. A slow round made for frustration coupled with a blustery wind made for difficult scoring. Being a public holiday the course was busy with over one hundred and seventy golfers listed to play in stark contrast to the previous day when many caddies didn’t get a gig. Carts were not allowed on the fairways necessitating a significant amount of walking adding to the fatigue of slow play.
A lowly thirty-three points by Michael Brett was enough to take first place. In his last game of this visit Hubert Stiefenhofer took second place one back with thirty-two points. Paul Smith got the final spot in the winners circle with thirty points. Near pins were as listed with one unclaimed.
Last game today for Colin Greig who returns to sunny Scotland over the weekend. Hubert Stiefenhofer follows back to Germany next week so our numbers are dwindling but as always when some go others take their place, next week we see the return of les Humphrey and Rob Folland following months out with injury, even Geoff Atwell who hasn’t played in almost two years is rumored to make a return within weeks.
Golfer of the month Colin Greig
Winner at Khao Kheow Alan Sullivan
Michael Brett winner at Hermes.
