Bunker Boys Golf report for the week commencing Monday June 22nd

Monday, June 22nd

Treasure Hill

1st Bil Richardson (20) 34 points

2nd Tony Robbins (28) 34 points

3rd Les Cobban (10) 32 points

4th Sean Murphy (20) 32 points

Near pins Tony Robbins, Les Cobban & Geoff Williams X 2.

A beautiful bright sunny day to begin a new week of golf at Treasure Hill. We were able to tee off immediately upon arrival and had the course virtually to ourselves so a very quick round was had apart from the last group who lost forty minutes on the rest of the field.

The course was as usual in very good condition, carts were allowed on the fairways so walking was at a minimum.  A nice cool breeze kept everything very comfortable.

After several months away in West Australian Bil Richardson made a triumphant return today with thirty four points, outpointing Tony Robbins on the back nine. Les Cobban also did the same to Sean Murphy, both with thirty two points. In his last game of this trip Geoff Williams monopolised the near pins taking two, Tony Robbins got the short sixth and Les Cobban got the remaining pin.

Sean Murphy was the only one to advance his cause in the chase for the golfer of the month, he still has a lot of making up to do to catch Rob Folland who looks home and hosed at this late stage.

Something very welcome and long overdue took place last week in golf when Joaquin Neumann received a two strokes penalty for club throwing. I say long overdue, how long has golf tolerated some very bad behavior from Sergio Garcia amongst others. Generally behavior in Thai golf is quite good  although we occasionally get a ting tong amongst us who let’s the side down. It’s up to all golfers to be mindful of the rules of golf and their behavior on the course and their treatment of caddies who sometimes bear the brunt of people’s frustration.

Wednesday June 24th

Bangpakong Riverside

1st Sean Murphy (20) 36 points

2nd les Cobban (11) 35 points

3rd Rob Folland (18) 34 points

Near pins Bil Richardson, les Cobban,  & Rob Folland.

Despite the longer drive to the course it’s always a joy to play the Bangpakong Riverside course, although today it was not in the very good condition we have come to expect.  Several areas on some fairways were brown and bare. Still at seventeen hundred baht all-in it was good value.

A very strong wind was blowing today which kept scores much lower than we have come to expect,  still it was very tight at the top of the leaderboard with Sean Murphy in one of his last games of this tour taking first place with thirty-six points,  one ahead of  les Cobban,  Rob Folland took third a further stroke back to maintain his position in the chase for golfer of the month. He also managed to snag a near pin as did Bil Richardson and Les Cobban.

Two more games to complete the month with next Monday changed from Mountain Shadow to Pattaya Country Club where we will avail of the special all-in deal of fifteen hundred baht.

Friday June 26th

Greenwood A & B

1st Frazer Davy (11) 37 points

2nd Sean Murphy (19) 37 points

3rd Rob Folland (18) 35 points

Near pins Frazer Davy  Uwe Jurgensen,  & Michael Brett.

Building work continues apace at Greenwood although at this stage it’s difficult to see what it will look like when finished. There is also massive renovation to the C nine which will take probably six months to complete,  looks like all new fairwways and greens and several additional bunkers are being installed. One gets the feeling that the fees will increase substantially when it’s all done.

Today carts were allowed on the fairways so we didn’t play pick, clean, and place although a few complained of having to play mud-balls. The course looked in good condition but was a bit damp in places. Scoring was about par for Greenwood with Frazer Davy outpointing Sean Murphy on countback, both with thirty seven points, Sean still has aspirations of winning golfer of the month and with one game to go on Monday at Pattaya Country Club we will find out. Leading golfer of the month Rob Folland took third and still looks favourite. Once again only three near pins were taken as listed and with a couple of difficult par threes on PCC it looks like we may have to wait a bit longer to get all four again.

Bil Richardson, winner at Treasure Hill.

Sean Murphy, winner at Bangpakong Riverside.

Frazer Davy, winner at Greenwood.
