Once again Golf Chairman Joe Mooneyham has provided 120 PSC members playing today, at the prestigious Siam Plantation, with another memorable monthly tournament. This month was a special charity day with input from our two major sponsors EGA and Singha.
Following much rain earlier in the week eyes were looking upward as Joe, together with President Tony Oakes and Social Chairman Nigel Cannon arrived at the course early to prepare for the registration. In the event the day was windy but warm with the rain arriving just as the players were returning to the clubhouse.
The administrative arrangements at Plantation are excellent! As the players arrived for the shotgun start their name was ticked off by the staff and their bags taken – to be seen next on a buggy clearly marked with their name and starting hole. Joe, Tony and Nigel registered the players who were all given an energy drink courtesy of Singha. At 1150 at the sound of a hooter all were taken to their respective starting holes and at 1200 the hooter sounded again and all were off.
It was some 4 1/2 hours later that the groups returned to the Clubhouse with many compliments made on the condition of this excellent course.
Whilst all enjoyed the buffet provided by the club Joe, Tony and Nigel were busy working out the results.
Prior to the presentation of the prizes Nigel welcomed all to Siam Plantation and asked for special appreciation to Joe Mooneyham who had organized the day and worked with the sponsors to ensure it was a successful day.. Joe then came and expressed his appreciation for the generosity of Siam Plantation and to all of today’s 120 players – a full house – the help from Tony, Nigel, William and Noi Emmerson, and the PSC office staff who dealt with administration.
Back to Nigel to announce the winners and Joe to present the prizes.
The low gross winner was Mike Allidi (2) with 75 gross which is a great score at any time but with today’s wind even more so. This earned Mike a Singha Golf bag – again donated by our major sponsor.
‘A’ Flight was stroke play and Jeff Cordeiro (7) claimed top spot with 73 Net.
It was Barry Copestake (14) with 40 points winning ‘B’ Flight, and 43 points from Jean Laroche (17) securing ‘C’ Flight.
Regular PSC player Max Bracegirdle (23) took ‘D’ Flight with 37 points and Peter Henshaw (18) taking the Senior Flight with 32 points.
In the Ladies Flight it was a new name at the top with Srithong Sasitorn (13) registering a fine 46 points. Khun Noy was greeted with much applause for her great score.
Joe then gave details of next month’s tournament at Pattana Sports Golf Course on Friday 20th September. .
The lucky draw and raffle was next again with some great prizes donated and the final ticket winning 40% of the takings. Thanks to some of our sponsors including Tony Doyle from Drunken Duck; Bob Newell and Kyle Roadley from Player’s Lounge and Singha.
It was then time for a special auction – PSC member Kyle Roadley – who is a caddy on the professional circuit – gave Joe a pin flag from the recently played US Open and signed by the winner Justin Rose. The bidding was a little slow to start but then heated up with a final bid of 25,000 baht from Jeremy Cairns going home with this prized possession.
Joe then distributed sports day vouchers for Green Valley kindly donated by Khun Niran General Manager.
A total of 200,000 baht was raised from this event. And many thanks go to our sponsors especially Boon Rawd Brewery ( Singha).
As players made their way home there were many favorable comments on another finely organized tournament by the Golf Chairman and PSC staff.
