117th PSC CHARITY CLASSIC

FRIDAY 22ND MARCH 2013 AT BURAPHA GOLF CLUB
To arrange any golf tournament takes weeks of organization. To arrange a major tournament, like today’s Charity Classic where there were prizes on every hole, prizes for the top 10 pairs, sponsors to obtain, shirts to order as well as negotiating for a golf course at an attractive price, with a shotgun start and a buffet is no exception Add to all that the preparation of start sheets, which was a two person scramble, and the collecting of entry of fees, takes time and energy and today PSC Golf Chairman, Joe Mooneyham, excelled himself with masterminding today’s arrangements, with the help of the ever dependable Office Manager Khun Mai, that provided 144 PSC members with a successful and profitable, for Charity, Golf Tournament.
On the day he was helped by fellow committee members – President Tony, Charity Chair William (who also played) and Social Chair Nigel. The day started early for at 8 am they were on the course erecting sponsors signs and leaving the appropriate markers on each hole.

Many of those taking part arrived early, which was a relief to all concerned, with Joe and Nigel on the registration desk and Tony and William allocating the shirts which were kindly provided by Chris Balzai of Sinto Shirts.

As we expect at Burapha, the course was presented in pristine condition with superb greens, closely mown fairways, hot and sunny conditions but with just a slight breeze to keep the temperatures at a reasonable level perfect conditions in which to play golf.

With a full complement of 144 players, it was about 5 hours later that the teams returned to the clubhouse and presented their score to determine the results. Then the sheets for the 20 technical prizes arrived to be recorded.

Joe thanked all who participated in today’s tournament with special thanks to the support of the sponsors, Although many who have been sponsors for a number of years, new sponsors were brought to the attention of everyone present. Special thanks to today’s hosts and in particular the Burapha General Manager – Khun Mike – for the support of both Burapha and The Eastern Seaboard Golf Association with whom PSC have built up a firm relationship over recent years. Many complimentary green fees were provided by the EGA for which we were extremely grateful.

A special relationship has also been developed with Singha, a company that supports many golf tournaments in Thailand, for today they provided the winners with the magnificent Singha Golf Bags and many free drinks for everyone. With their tremendous support of golf at all levels in Thailand, this fascinating game will only become more popular in all regions.

During this time two lovely ladies Wendy Chetland and Noi Emmerson moved around the tables selling raffle tickets for many splendid prizes that were on offer tonight, most provided by our generous sponsors. The final ticket was to receive 60% of the ticket sales.

Presentation time, as is usual at PSC events, for Nigel to call order and introduced President Tony Oakes who congratulated Joe for an excellent day and expressed his appreciation to all competitors. Nigel then introduced Golf Chairman Joe Mooneyham after asking all to express their appreciation to Joe for the hard work he had put in to provide another successful day both for PSC members and PSC charities.

Prior to the prize presentation Joe auctioned some pin flags from the recent Thailand PGA tournament that had been signed by some top golfers – Sergio, Bubba, Lee, Darren– again thanks to some hectic bidding a substantial sum was added to overall total.

Nigel then read out the winners of the technical prizes, and as this was a ‘pairs’, the respective partner also got a prize which were presented by Tony and Joe.
So to the final results – the top 10 pairs winning a prize.

Runners up were the team of Max Bracegirdle and Stu Rifkin with a net 62.8 off their combined handicap of 8.2 losing by just .2 to the winning team of Bob Watson and Max Scott with 62.2 net of their 1.4 handicap. They were welcomed with great applause for an excellent score.

The evening was not over yet! Some great prizes were presented to the winners of the raffle including Pro V golf balls and Fairway Woods donated by Pattaya City Golf.

So ended another successful Charity Classic where there were many winners – the main one being Charity as more than 400,000 baht was raised through this event.
