Gerd Riedler Wins Monthy Mug!
Greetings, golfers and golf friends. The last golf Friday of each month is the quest for the Holy Grail of the Tropical Golf world – to be the proud winner of the Monthly Mug. As usual the event was to be held at Pattaya Country Club. After filling up stomachs and cars at BJ’s Holiday Lodge, 23 hopefuls made short drive to PCC.
There is no denying the new facilities at PCC are top notch. Does anyone even remember the old locker room? The course was mostly dry and quite firm and we hope rain comes along to water them soon. Most notable is the tee boxes many of which seem to be made of concrete, and one needs a hammer and 10-penny nail to make a hole for your tee. All said though the course was in fair condition with some tricky pin placements. But now on to the exciting results!
The Winner: No Stableford to mask your game, stroke play bares your soul to the golfing world. It was the narrowest of margins, but in the end Gerd Riedler (hcp 9) took home his first Monthly Mug with a net 68. A big congratulation to Gerd!
A-Flight (0-13). Just missing the podium, in second place was Bob Watson (3) with a net 69. You read it right, Bob played the course in level par. Great play Bob! Rounding out A-Flight was Steve Truelove (9) with a net 71, and Maurice Roberts (13) with net 73.
B-Flight (14+). Henry Wong (23), back to playing off the white tees, showed he can handle it by scoring net 71,followed by Tom Cotton (22) and Andre Van Dyk (14) both with net 72.
