Don Carmody Conquers Treasure Hill
This Friday it was time for the Tropical Golfers to take advantage of the good deal currently at Treasure Hill. A slow season and post Hua Hin group of 13 golfers met at BJ’s Lodge under threatening skies for the trip out. Much discussion was on the constant rain the night before and would the rain leave us in peace? It turned out to be no worries at all.
Treasure Hill is an underrated course. Fairways and greens are usually in very good condition, the course is scenic and free from urban noise. That doesn’t mean a round here is relaxing as it is one of the most challenging layouts in the area, with a large number of “I dare you” risk and reward decisions throughout the round, and after the round too many people regret decisions. Scores were generally lower than the norm, but a few standouts showed their mettle.
Fresh off his flight win at the PSC Monthly, Don Carmody (h’cap 27) continued his streak with an impressive 37 points. Excellent play on a tough course Don! Second place went to frequent winner Mashi Kaneta (16) with 35 points due to an impressive back nine of 21 points, beating Daryl Evans (21) on count-back. Fourth place went to Andre Van Dyk (14) with 33 points, just edging out Brian Parish on count-back, but Brian had a good round taking both long putts. Brian is leaving Pattaya to go on “vacation” for a month, and we wish him well and hurry back.
