Tropical Golf 10/11

Greenwood – S’ford
With a contingent of regular players off to Kanchanaburi for Poppy Day ceremonies, a fair sized group of 19 met at our golfing home, The BJ Holiday Lodge, for breakfast and transport arrangements for the days outing to Greenwood. What has always been one of the longer drives has now turned into an even longer one due to long stretches of road works underway on Hwy 331. However we did manage to get there before our scheduled tee time and, with the parking lot virtually deserted, we found we had the course to ourselves. Check in was swift and all enjoyed the special packages currently on offer, 1,150 B with a cart or 850 B to walk. Almost too good to be true for November!
So with a bit of a breeze under warm, sunny skies we were soon off to negotiate our way around the well manicured “B” and “C” nines. The tees and fairways were well grassed and not wet enough to require any thought of ‘Ball-in-Hand’ and the greens were running at a reasonable speed and true. Now, would the golfers take full advantage of the pristine conditions and turn in some respectable scores? Play moved along at a good pace and soon all cards were in and the transport loaded up and back through the road construction to BJ’s for a late lunch and the results.
With two flights split at handicap 18, we certainly did have respectable scores. Congratulations to both Jim Ferris(21) and Bill McGarvie(9) for turning in the best of the day for their respective flights.
