Tropical Golf 03/11

Tuesday The 3rd November 2015: Pleasant Valley ( Stableford) I know some players dislike this Course, but the Scribe is not amongst them, and I can think of many Courses with better reputations that would be lower in my list of Courses to play. It did not start very auspiciously years ago, as the fairways seemed too close on a piece of land that was really too small for a Golf Course, however with the planting of trees and as it has matured I feel it has come on leaps and bounds.

This was usually a Course that suffered greatly when it rained, and one of our players used to call it Pleasant Swamp, however when we play these days it always seems to be in fine condition and so it was on this day. The fairways were fine although the ball did pick up mud in places, and the greens were a bit slow, but it is not exactly dry around the area these days. All in all a good Course and well presented.

The Restaurant is not too bad either and the food is good and reasonably priced. A couple of our golfers sat outside for a while until they were forced in by the flies. Seems it is that Season. However it was fine indoors and helped us to relax after a hard day on the Course.

We were soon away and the good weather deteriorated as we got close to Pattaya. It was pouring down, and we waded through the water to BJ’s. Here we were reminded that this was out first Anniversary of our move from Tropical Bert’s, and a nice little Buffet had been laid on by the ‘Proprietors’. I thank them for this nice gesture.

So to the presentation and the scores were not too bad as the Course was long on the day. In the A Flight, no surprise, 0 to 18, the winner was Mashi Kaneta with 38 points ahead of Landis Brooks in second with 37 points and Bill McGarvie in third with 36 points. In the B Flight the winner was Nigel Perry with 34 points on countback over Tom Cotton in second place. In third was Cave Cooper with 33 points.

Wet streets and running water seem to produce two types, those who warm up on cold beer and those who dash home in case it pours down again. Guess which one’s we are. T.T.F.N.
