Tropical Bert’s we 29/10
Tuesday The 29th October 2013: Green Valley ( Stableford )
A fine Course that is always worth a visit and after the rains of late it would be interesting to see if the Course had held up. So a later than normal start from Bert’s saw us at the Course a little early so we could have a leisurely walk to the first tee. We even had time to spend a lot of time on the putting green to perfect our way of missing the hole.
This being the last Tuesday of the month, it was the MBMG Group Golfer of the month time, and a couple of golfers were well in the lead with another half dozen who needed the leader to fail to win. So it was up to the leaders to perform. It is amazing how many times someone comes out of the pack on the last day, would it happen this day?.
Stood on the first tee it was a pleasure not to have to check the fairways to see if the ball would pick up mud, so we were able to get away with no special rules. There was a alight breeze and no rainclouds overhead, a really nice day, and we were able to move along well on the first hole, then we met a block that kept occurring all the way around. Not bad but just enough to let us smell the roses.
The Course was In good condition all the way around and it was noticeable that the players kept getting caught out by the speed of the greens. After many rounds of soggy slow greens, we had fast, good greens that were a pleasure to play and even good players saw the ball flying fast the hole. Nice to see and maybe now the good weather is here to stay.
Round over it was soon through the fine changing facilities and for me into the German Restaurant where I tried the food. For me it seems to be not as good as it used to be, still a personal opinion. Then into cars and back to Bert’s avoiding the Route 36 that is in very bad condition at present.
Back at Bert’s later than normal it was soon the for the results. Max Bracegirdle had a very good round of 36 points and must have though he had a chance of winning the MBMG Group Golfer of the Month as he had been in second place but three better rounds saw him fall short. The winner on the day was Dick Warberg with a fine round of 38 points on countback over Graham Buckingham in second. In third was Brian Parish With 37 points.
So to the MBMG Group Golfer of the Month, and after his fine round the winner was Dick Warberg who leap frogged many golfers ahead of him in an exciting finish. Well done Dick. T.T.F.N.

Friday The 1st November 2013: Plutaluang (Stableford) There was a big turnout for this day and that has much to do with the liking some people have for the Course. So off they went and on reaching the Course they found they were to play the West & North Nines, not my favourite but it must have something as it is used in many Tournaments.
The Course was in good condition and the greens were fast for this Course. The fairways were in reasonable condition and the rough playable. This to me is the more rural of the two 18 hole set up’s but it does have it’s followers and I have to say that the staff here are very pleasant and do take care of you.
Round over you can sit in the Restaurant and see players coming in, and the food is reasonable and well priced. Still it was soon back into cars and back to Bert’s.
So onto the results. In the A Flight, 0 to 17, the winner was Landis Brooks with 37 points ahead of Bob Watson in second place with 34 points. In third was David Palmer with 33 points and in fourth was Brian Parish with 29 points. In the B Flight the winner was Dick Warberg with 35 points ahead of Mick Coghlan 34 points. In third was Carmody with 33 points ahead of Barry Oates in fourth with 31 points on countback over Tom Herrington. Then we had a couple. T.T.F.N.
