Tropical Bert’s 19/03
March 19th 2013: Mountain Shadow ( Stableford)
This Course has become a standard on the Tuesday Listings and usually once a month we go there. The players all like to go there and on this day we had a good turnout. Usually I go down Route 7, but on this day I thought I would go down Sukhumwit, as 91 Red has become none existent since the petrol station has closed in North Pattaya. So I turn left off Pattaya Nua onto Sukhumwit and the first station has what I want. It then seemed a pity to U Turn.
I soon wished I had though as all the lights seemed red and quite often we did not get through in one rotation. Usually of late this has been a nice bimble down there but what a bitty drive on this day. Sometimes you can drive the same road you have driven for years and it is totally different and annoying. I would go back route 7 without a doubt.
Finally arriving there, it was a very quick change and down to the start. Being a bit late I told our three ball to go on ahead and tee off first, that they did, so to follow them we played off the white tees, or ‘Mickey Mouse Tees’, so we were going to have some good scores. Mind we were going to have a good day.
We really did have a fine day out. The Course was in it’s normal good condition and we did not find the trees too often. The greens were very good, but not as tricky as they used to be, and this made for a decent day on the greens. We did have quite a bit of wind, but it is expected here,
Round over it was a quick shower, hot by the way, and dry off on towels that seem to be of a more recent vintage. They must be doing well here of late because it always seems full, and the towels seem new. The Restaurant is quite good and the prices are reasonable.
So, off back to Bert’s and of course we went back down route 7, and we made good speed. I even had time to partake of ‘The Golfers Special’ before I did the results. In the A Flight, 0 to 18, the winner was Brian Parish with 40 points ahead of Keichi Kasami in second with 38 points. In third we had Mark West with 37 points and we had a four way countback on 36 points that saw Mashi Kaneta in fourth and Landis Brooks, Mike Jackson and Richard Kubicki just missing out. In the B Flight Steve Compton won with 40 points, a fine 25 points on the back nine, ahead of a countback on 36 points that saw Dick Warberg in second and Rita Zoebeli in third. In fourth was Jim Ferris with 35 points on countback over Max Bracegirdle.
A good day was had by all. T.T.F.N.
