MOUNTAIN SHADOW GOLF COURSE – STABLEFORD

By San Mig Stu

EBRAHIM HAS A WIN!

For the benefit of one known as JJ the next few lines or so are dedicated to him, others please skip the next paragraph.

Two buses were loaded and departed the Growling Swan a little earlier than anticipated on a fine sunny day. The journey to the course up highway 7 was mostly uneventful and with the traffic being light we arrived at the course early. As it was not very busy we teed off 20 minutes before our designated tee off time of 10 AM. The course looked inviting however as we later found, was a bit untidy perhaps as a result of the recent storms in and around Pattaya. The round was quick the first nine holes (1 hour and 45 minutes) but was slowed by several groups being slotted in front of us on the back nine which rounded the game to 4 hours and ten minutes….There, happy JJ?…Oh sorry JJ! A slight shower on the back nine also contributed to the delay.

A warm welcome was given to Randy Lodinger from Texas USA and farewells were made to Rudy Reganesse heading to Samui before returning to his home in Cape Town South Africa. We wished Graham Rice who departs to Australia to compete in the Queensland semi finals leg of the National Holden Challenge team event being held in Port Douglas, North Queensland.

Today’s scribe, being in the leading group, was not privy to much innuendo of today’s happenings as when we returned to the club house the power was out and the stand by generator (if there was one) was also out of action. So with no water and suffering a bad case of Bali Belly the scribe considered his luck was not altogether out as all the toilet cisterns were full and he managed to carry out some much needed cleansing duties after relieving some of the belly pains!

With no food on offer, as the kitchen runs on power apparently, everyone went back to the GS for presentations and cold drinks. The scribe managed to stay until presentations were over before departing for home, a shower and much needed rest (as his better half has been away for several days and took the billy lids), so apologies for the lack of other group’s trials and tribulations.

He did however note that a player in his group (no birth right names mentioned Ricey) forgot to put out the longest putt marker on the 9th hole and was also seen to throw a club for which without pre empting donated a sizable sum to Deefa, the charity dog. Nobody following the leading group was smart enough to pin a card on the green for the longest putt?

Being a Stableford event it was decided to opt for a rundown instead of Divisional winners and with four NTP’s and two (well one) longest putt made available, the results were:

Eb Alansari had a fine round scoring 42 points followed by Mashi Kaneta with 39, Stu Rifkin coming in third with 38 and Kae Tusagad was 4th on a count back from Andrew Allen, Kev Waycott and Bob Akapita whilst Roy Dayton took out 8th spot.

RESULTS FOR MOUNTAIN SHADOW:

1ST EB ALANSARI (14) 42 POINTS

2ND MASHI KANETA (15) 39 POINTS

NAGA CAP AWARD

Our host Peter Grey managed to win this cap despite having one of his better rounds and kindly donated to Deefa the Charity dog, which is a (minor) penalty for having the worst round of the day. He also won a new ball as consolation.

The GS is a “friendly” golf outlet and caters for and encourages all golfers, young and old, male or female to have a hit on any of our weekly outings. We generally play Mondays and Thursdays at one of the many fine golf courses in and around Pattaya. Please contact Peter Grey if you are interested in playing on 0861 503086

LAWN BOWLS

The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts. Bus transport departs the GS on Wednesdays at 10 AM when they go to Coco’s for undercover, synthetic green bowls and on Sundays at the same time for open, grass bowling at The Retreat. Please contact Paul Rennison on 0843 454005 if you wish to partake. The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out!
