Gerd & Seesa Shine At Eastern Star!

There was a healthy field of 21 signed up for the first game of the week and we gathered at The Growling Swan prior to our departure to the Eastern Star Golf Course. We welcomed Jerry Dobbs back for a couple of weeks from his work in Gladstone, Queensland and also Kurt-Eric Persson & his lady Seesa back for another game with us. Once again it was time to say goodbye to David “Fletch” Fletcher who will shortly be returning to work in Western Australia. All were early so we left the GS 5 minutes ahead of schedule at 8.25 am and headed South through fairly light traffic and arrived at the course 45 minutes later. It was fairly quiet so we had time to relax and prepare & our first four ball teed off 15 minutes before our allotted time of 10.00 am. It was a lovely day, not too hot with a gentle breeze and the golf course was in very good “nick” with the greens receptive and true. We set a fairly good pace and as the breeze got a bit stronger it made playing conditions quite comfortable and we completed our very enjoyable round in four hours & fifteen minutes.

We had 2 Divisions – Division A for handicaps 0 to 15 & Division B for golfers on handicaps of 16 and over with three places in each Division. There were also rewards for nearest the pin on the four par 3’s and longest first putts on the 9th & 18th greens.

Playing some excellent golf recently was one of my playing partners, Gerd Riedler and his fine 41 points was good enough for first place in A Division with Kevin “Wayco” Waycott hot on his heels in second place with 40 points and Takeshi Hakozaki was third with 39 points. Division B was won by Seesa Phompinmon who had 35 points and Dick “The Reverend” Braimbridge came second just one point further back. There were 2 golfers with 33 points and the count back resulted in third place going to Gary Williams (18 point back nine) with Nolan “Notso” Wise (16 point back nine) just missing out.

Results for Eastern Star:

Division A – 0 to 15
1st – Gerd Riedler (8) – 41 points
2nd – Kevin Waycott (10) – 40 points
3rd – Takeshi Hakozaki (13) – 39 points

1st – Seesa Phompinmon (26) – 35 points

The Growling Swan NAGA Award, (awarded to the golfer who has the worst score on the day and discreetly their score is not made public) was once again won by Niall Stuart and he accepted the award like the good sport that he is and wore the cap for a considerable time in the bar afterwards. Gerd then kindly paraded Deefa the Dog and of course collected many donations for the needy in Pattaya from our generous Growling Swan Golfers. Back at the bar afterwards we enjoyed several Aussie cold, low priced beers while watching the Monday night NRL and afterwards discussed the events of a very enjoyable day.
