The Growling Swan 01/02

Khan and Martin Show the Way
The Drut
Twenty six punters gathered in Soi Chaiyapoon eager to take advantage of the 1,650 baht green fee, caddy and cart deal on offer.
Welcomes were handed out to Per Salberg, Bill Steinmann, Russell Goldsworthy and Geri Crilly. Pat Kavanagh and J.J.Harney were fare welled, the latter gent attaining the status of grandfather. Congrats mate does that mean Silver Tees next. We do wish your daughter, son in law and the newest arrival (yet to be named) all the very best!
Climatically it was warm, the course in good condition and with the usual velodrome type greens being quite slow, it assisted in contributing to good scores.
Prior to hit off Peter Grey said he had as much chance of winning as Brendan Fevola being appointed to the board of The Geelong Girls Grammar Finishing School for Charm.
He was correct.
Two grades today, with scratch to seventeen being the senior one and eighteen plus, the junior.
In the A grade Martin Todd handed in thirty seven points and despite Mark Stapleton’s game sparkling like the duco on a new Ferrari, he was rolled on a countback. Third spot went to J.J.Harney also on countback from Stu Rifkin both players finishing with thirty six points.
B grade saw Khan Speechley score thirty six points, Jim Carlson thirty five, Alex Field thirty four and Pat Kavanagh propped it up with thirty two.
In a display of ineptness not seen since gallstones and coals of fire wreaked havoc on Sodom and Gomorrah, Mike Gosden scored a miserable twenty five points indicating retirement may be imminent.

A Special Note Regarding D-For.
The Growling Swan had rec a phone call thru the week. There is a tournament to take place on the 17th of March at Pattaya C.C. All monies raised from this will go to the families of the 2 Caddies that were tragically killed (hit by a truck) leaving the golf Course after work. We, as a group, have decided that “All D-For Monies”, from now till March will go to the families of the two girls! To Date B3530.00
D-For was again in full flight however one unnamed player with a penchant for retaining his hard earned was only persuaded to part with a few readies after a liberal dose of unguents to the wallet. Also to be known Grand Dad deposited 2K after hearing as to what we have introduced with D-For.
The GS is a friendly golf outlet and caters for and encourages all golfers male and female to have a hit at any of our weekly outings. We generally play Mondays and Thursdays at one of the many fine golf courses in and around Pattaya. Please contact Peter Grey if you are interested on 0861 503086.
The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts. Bus transport departs the GS on Sundays at 10 AM to play at The Retreat. Please contact Paul Rennison on 0843 454005 if you wish to partake. The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out.
