The Growling Swan 09/11

SILKY OAK – 9th November, 2015
Eric Black – He’s Powerful!
19 golfers presented in fine fettle as we braced ourselves for the challenge at Silky Oak.
We welcomed Peter Bye and Roy and Kae Dayton, back from their extended trip to the USA.
This scribe had somehow missed the Growling Swan’s last three visits to Silky Oak and I take this opportunity to recommend. With five par threes, the course provides a refreshing difference in design to many courses around Pattaya. One lasting memory is a splendid 535 yard (off the whites) par 5 followed by an 87 yard par three.
The course presented in fantastic condition, the weather was perfect with a gentle breeze keeping tempers cool as the course certainly bared its claws. Only 2 players bettered their handicap and many struggled to find consistent form..
Kissy Buchanan was resplendent. He loves buying new clothes but never forgets that the best moments in life are enjoyed without them. Kissy started well, but by the end of the day couldn’t hit the skin off a rice pudding.
The inimitable Ebrahim, steadily rounded up 37 pts but was pipped on a count-back. Eric Black, it seems as he ages gracefully, has become kinder to himself and has developed a power game. Piere Cere rounded out the placings on 36 pts..
1st Eric Black (14) 37 pts c/b
2nd Ebrahim (17) 37 pts
3rd Piere Cere (11) 36 pts
4th Kevin Waycott (7) 35 pts
3 Bill McGarvie
6 John Anderson
8 Mike Gosden
14 Kevin Waycott
16 Eric Black

Long Putt: 9 Eric Black, 18 Ebrahim
Dee 4 (our charity collector dog) snaffled many donations and the players are thanked for their continued generosity. The donations go to the needy children of Pattaya.
Back at ‘The Swan’ refreshing, icey cold frothies were quaffed as Peter Grey announced the winners.

For some serious golf with a dash of fun, the Growling Swan welcomes golfers of all persuasions. We generally play on Mondays and Thursdays at any one of the fine courses around Pattaya. Please contact Peter Grey for bookings or any information on 0861 503086.
The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts. Bus transport departs the GS on Sundays at 10.00am for open grass bowling at The Retreat. Please contact Paul Rennison on 0843 454005 if you wish to partake. The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out.
