The Growling swan 08/02

Pattaya CC – 8TH February, 2016

Grudge Match set to settle score!
A fantastic field of 35 spritely golfers gathered for the Growling Swan, trip to Pattaya CC stableford event. Warm welcomes were extended to Gert Riedler, David Marshall & John Ferris.

Pre-game, Gerri Crilly summised that a good golf partner is one who’s always slightly worse than you are ….. that’s why Gerri gets so many requests to play with friends. Gerri’s sledging of late has peaked, so much so that he even makes fun of his own bad haircut.

On course, we played off the white tees in cool conditions. The course played tough with bare hardpan lies. The green keeper must have had a big night out, because many hole locations were on slopes which made putting very difficult on the slick greens

Fred Cuypers, Troy Pickford and Paul Jackson enjoyed resounding wins in their respective grades, John Anderson expertly scanned the scorecards and on a packed leader board, the highly excited Khan Speechley, Ian Masterson, Dennis Steele and Peter Grey snuck in to enjoy podium finishes.

Most golfers from time to time have a grudge match to settle some scores or exchange a few sheckels. At ‘The Swan’, Messrs Crilly, Jockey, Grey and Schembri have a massive score to settle. It seems they have been at each other’s throats for weeks and the sledging has reached fever pitch. It all comes to a head this Thursday ….. so in the next report, ….. watch this space!

Charity dog ‘D4’ gratefully received significant donations from many and they are thanked for their continued contributions. All ‘Deefa’ donations go to the PSC to be directed to projects to assist the needy children of Pattaya. Total so far B10,480.00.

Peter Grey farewelled Drew McGaw and wished him safe travel, then announced the winners with great mirth. A great time was had by all!
For some serious golf with a dash of fun, the Growling Swan welcomes golfers of all persuasions. We generally play on Mondays and Thursdays at any one of the fine courses around Pattaya. Please contact Peter Grey for bookings or any information on 0861 503086.

The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts. Bus transport departs the GS on Sundays at 10am for open grass bowling at The Retreat. Please contact Paul Rennison on 0843 454005 if you wish to partake. The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out.
