The Growling Swan 04/11
Monday 4th November 2013 – Mountain Shadow – Stableford
TOSHI TOTALLY TOPS TODAY! (Topsalopsalai!)
You beaut, ripper mate and on yer son!….These are terms (Australian slang) generally used with reference/expression to merriment, joy and pleasure, which is what the “temporary organizers” of the Growling Swan golf outlet are experiencing today, this being the last day of their penalty duties. President Peter Blackburn returns tomorrow (Melbourne Cup Day for the horse racing enthusiasts) and not before time!
A cautious word of warning to the other GS players. Behave yourself or Blacky will surely target you to take over duties when he next takes holidays….me, you won’t know I am even there!
Once again, this scribe was unable to tackle the course and thus relies solely on the score sheet and stories of the day relayed by others.
Welcomes were made to Paul Simon who returns to Pattaya and Thailand from Victoria in Oz for more golfing and other pleasures around this great country. (Paul gets further credit later in this report.) Also greeted were Geoff Wallace, Greg Preferment and Andre Barril who hail from other parts of the world? (Info not given to scribe)
A farewell was made to Luca Santy who heads back to stuff knows where? (Info not given to scribe)
The information that was given was that carts were allowed on the fairways because the course was dry and it was a sunny / windy day so the blue tees were selected to be played from. I am not sure if this brought groans or cheers from the players, however on reflection it is noted that last week, when playing off the yellow tees, three players played to par or better and today off the blues was no better.
Due to the dry conditions the players completed their rounds in a good time of four hours and ten minutes, which would have been a damn sight longer if I and some of the other delinquents of the GS crew had played….
By all reports it was our newly arrived, happy, bubbly, Japanese player Toshi Abe who clearly had a good day by winning Division A with 36 points and also many of the novelty prizes too! Second was Ebrahim, pleased to be coming off a sour spell, with 34 points and Monthly Mug winner Alaine Taddei again in the prizes with 32 points; however he had to await a count back from Gero Reidler and Ed Stewart before being awarded third spot.
Division B was won by Patrick Poussier with the highest points score of the day having 37 points followed by John Davis with a creditable 36 points and Maxi Babe (Bracegirdle) taking out third with 34 points.

It would appear that our returned visitor Paul Simon had his mind on his other Thai interests today as he was the surprise winner of this not so prestigious but very charitable award. Paul acknowledged his slip of form by happily donating to Deefa as did many of the other Growling Swan players. Thank you all for your generosity again.
It was with sadness and regret that we were informed of the passing of one of our long the standing Pattaya golfers, Kevin Dinan. RIP Kevin.
The Growling Swan NAGA Award is an award made to the golfer who has the worst score on the day and discreetly their score is not made public. The winner is asked to donate 50 baht to Deefa for his/her efforts.
Deefa is a fluffy doll like dog which is used to collect donations for the needy children in Pattaya from our generous Growling Swan Golfers.
