The Growling Swan 03/07

Paying Homage at Wangjuntr!

A great friend of many in Australia and here in Pattaya, Ian ‘Juggy’ Jones’ all time favourite golf course was Wangjuntr. Since Juggy’s untimely passing, when his mates trek over for their bi-annual golfing sojourn, we like to pay homage to Juggy and visit this remarkable facility.

With an extra day added to the Growling Swan golfing schedule, our busload of 8 headed off for the 1 ½ hour drive. The Highland 18 is out of action for 6 months, but with 3 courses on site, we chose the magnificent Jungle 18. The bluest skies we have seen in Thailand greeted us and the weather was refreshingly temperate.

Wangjuntr Jungle 18 is a great test of skill. The course condition is excellent with huge undulating greens running at breakneck speed. Built in mountains and rugged terrain with ample water hazards, its signature for this scribe is that every hole is unique and although an extremely tough course, is very pleasurable to play.

Proof was in the pudding with the post mortems on the return home. Although no one played to their handicap, it was unanimous; though it is a long drive through some traffic snarls, we would all venture back sometime soon.

In addition, at 1,700 THB (GF, caddie and cart) for PSC members provides excellent value.
