Monday, 2nd June – Crystal Bay, A & C – Stableford

Ebrahim Blitzes Crystal Bay!

With the weekend over it was back to golf and it was time to play our monthly game at the popular Crystal Bay Golf Course with 18 starters on the sheet. Once again we used golfer’s cars to transport some people which meant we had just the one mini van which departed the GS 5 minutes ahead of schedule at 8.25 am. Traffic exiting Pattaya was slow as is usual for a Monday morning but once we got on to Sukhumvit it flowed quite freely but with the normal traffic light delays whilst going through Sriracha. Arriving at the course after the 48 minute drive we found there were not many golfers there so after being told we were playing C & A nines in that order our first group, a three ball got away 15 minutes early at 9.45 am. It was hot and humid as usual and the course was in good shape and the greens although multi coloured were generally firm and true. It was necessary to take a couple of drinks breaks due to the heat but we maintained quite a steady pace and completed the round in four hours & twenty minutes.

We had 2 Divisions – Division A for handicaps 0 to 22 & Division B for golfers on handicaps of 23 and over with three places in each Division. There were also rewards for nearest the pin on A8 & C4 and longest first putts on the A9 & C9 greens.

I had the pleasure of marking the Division A winner’s card and playing some excellent golf it was Ebrahim who finished in first place with an outstanding 44 points. There were 2 golfers with 37 points so a count back was necessary to decide the minor placings and as a result it was John Davis (16 point back nine) who finished second ahead of your writer Peter “Blacky” Blackburn (15 point back nine) in third spot. In Division B Geri Crilly was declared the winner with 37 points with Russell Calcutt second on 36 points and Nolan “Notso” Wise finished third with 35 points.

The Growling Swan NAGA Award, (awarded to the golfer who has the worst score on the day and discreetly their score is not made public) was won by Growling Swan Mine Host Peter Grey and he accepted the award like the good sport that he is. Andrew then kindly paraded Deefa the Dog and of course collected many donations for the needy in Pattaya from our generous Growling Swan Golfers. It was then back to the bar for some Aussie cold, low priced beers while watching Monday night NRL from Australia. Another very good day with excellent company.
