Steve Little has a big week!

Wow, it’s Chuck and Dale back at The Club for a 19th hole beer (or three).

Wow, it’s Chuck and Dale back at The Club for a 19th hole beer (or three).

First off, a change of schedule on Wednesday 12th June to Subhapruek C.C. in Bangkok instead of Treasure Hill. By popular demand we are off to this amazing Pete Dye course just over an hour’s drive for 1,700 b green fee and caddy fee. Sign up quick as slots are going fast and we only have 7 tee times.

Monday 27th – Rayong Green Valley – Stableford – White tees.
1st – Mike Newbert (9) 39 points
1st – Chuck W. Anderson (10) 39 points
2nd – Micky Beresford (17) 38 points
3rd – Dale Shier (14) 37 points

For those abroad, Pattaya is now truly blessed with gorgeous weather and most courses are in great shape. Few delays and friendly tee times make this a perfect time of the year to visit. As I drove little Ally to school this morning, we were surprised to see a beautiful rainbow and stunning yet massive white cloud formations on the horizon. This is the cleanest air we have had since our Songkran migration to Khao Yai!

In early April he played off 14 and now he is playing off 8.6, and so Mike Newbert continues to improve his game and lower his handicap week by week and still get better and better. It is one heck of a struggle from being a mid-handicapper to get down to single digits in just 2 months. Mike told me he set his mind to do just that and the fruits of his labour have paid off. He also mentioned a grip tip he heard on The Golf Channel (The other TGC!) has worked wonders for him, so pay attention and you may find something that will help your game as well.

We had a fairly full sheet of 24 golfers today and a mix of members and visitors would make for an interesting test. Mike Newbert was on top once again, but on this day would have to share the victory with visiting Chuck Anderson as the double winners ended up with 39 points, a great round of golf. All the returning golfers told me the course was in superb condition, so join us next week for our regular Monday venue from 09:30.

If you live over on the darkside in the Soi Khao Noi area, pop in to see our mates Dale and Micky at The Paradise Bar right across from that huge antennae on Khao Noi. There, you will find a friendly bar that houses our 3rd and 4th place golfers Micky Beresford and Dale Shier. The lads done good today with a return of 38 and 37 points to round off the podium for Monday’s golf. Thanks to all who joined in once again.

Tuesday 28th – Khao Kheow A & C – Stableford – White tees.
1st – Steve Little (6) 35 points
2nd – Phil Smedley (10) 31 points
2nd – Mike Newbert (9) 31 points

Time once again for one of the most challenging courses in Pattaya, the Pete Dye track at Khao Kheow. It’s very hard to even shoot your handicap here, and quite rare for a score in the forties. Visiting Steve (4XL) Little was ready for the day.

Steve had a hole in one at Pattana on his last visit, so the talent is there for sure. His 35 on the card was enough to take the win over Phil and Mike who languished on 31, but at this track that’s about right.

Thursday 30th – Phoenix – Monthly Medal – White tees.
1st – Steve Little (6) 72 net
2nd – Jeff Cordeiro (9) 73 net
3rd – John Emmerson (13) 73 net
4th – Henry O’Brien (19) 73 net

Phoenix was the location for our May Monthly Medal and the full signup sheet was a good indicator of how popular this course is. Aside from the obvious great location, it is an enjoyable golf course that is suitable for all handicaps.

Henry O’Brien continued his steady form and shot a great round of 73 net to tie with John Emmerson and Jeff Cordeiro for joint second. Johnny commented how good the course was; the fairways were fantastic, the greens were superb and even the tee boxes were immaculate.

If you have not played here, Phoenix offers lovely views, especially in the early morning, of Buddha Mountain with the sunshine glinting off the golden mountainside icon between the palms and the pines. We always start off our inbound tour groups here and never have any complaints.

Steve Little turned in a great performance and when you play off 6, you do need to earn your strokes. They say a medal comp favours the lower handicapper but even so, you cannot make any mistakes to shoot a 72 off a 6, so well played Mr. Little!
