By the time you read this, we will all be high and dry up in Khao Yai. The only benefit to staying in Pattaya is it may possibly be the world’s biggest wet t-shirt contest, but golf becomes too much of a hassle this week. We are closed for our annual getaway but TGC will re-open at 4:00 PM on Sunday the 20th for our famous Steak Night, so see you then. Happy New Year!
Funny things can happen sometimes when you don’t use the countback system, and on this days’ event there were a whole bunch of golfers jumbled up for second place. Four guys ended up shooting their handicap, and then another tie for first as Muffy Kerr and Ken Aihara shoot 39’s to tie for first place.
The new hole numbering seems to be going fine and the condition of the course is holding up very well, as we see many other courses drying up quickly and establishing a summer hardpan.
1st – Kenny Aihara (4) 31 points
1st – Dave Parker (8) 31 points
1st – Scott Witt (11) 31 points
Bangpra was the venue for today’s comp, and it is one of the better golf courses here. Today it was looking on the dry side and as we all like the extra roll, it comes at a price. The fairways have now become quite hard, so many thin shots were typical today.
When you have some very good golfer come back with a mere 31 on the card, you know it was a rough day at the office. Once again we had a tie, but great to see our pal Kenny Aihara back on the podium and back on his game. Way to go Kenny!

Friday 11th – Eastern Star – Stableford
1st – Mike Cantrell (29) 41 points
2nd – Phil Smedley (10) 36 points
3rd – Brian Green (15) 36 points
The Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed Eastern Star is the track to finish out our week of amazing golf in Thailand. The course continues to have maintenance issues and the recent sanding is not helping their cause. Still, it is great value for money and we all had an enjoyable round.
Mike Cantrell got back in a few weeks ago and has not had much luck on the podium until today. From out of nowhere, Mike pulls out a 41 on one of the more difficult golf courses in the area and beats the field by 5 full strokes for the win today! Great job Mike, it’s about time!
Thanks to all who joined us this week for more millionaires’ golf in Pattaya. Happy Songkran!
