Steve Snelgrove and Dale Shier back at the club.

Monday 28th – Alpine Country Club – Stableford

1st – Steve Snelgrove (6) 40 points
1st – Dale Shier (13) 40 points

Tuesday 29th – Thai Country Club – Stableford

1st – Steve Snelgrove (6) 43 points
1st – Kalani Makaneole (12) 40 points

It was a very special tour The Golf Club hosted this week as Dale Shier sponsored the road trip to Bangkok for the 50th birthday of our Canadian buddy Steve Snelgrove. The S.H.I.T.E. tour played the 2 best golf courses in Thailand, Alpine CC and the Thai CC for a 2-day comp for the field of 12. Actually, in the end, there was no contest as the Birthday Boy himself Mr. Steve Snelgrove blew away the field with a total of 83 Stableford points over the 2 days! Kalani Makaneole came 2nd with 70 and host Dale Shier was 3rd with 69 for a great finish. Thanks to Dale for providing the pig on the spit and bottles of wine for the near pins!

Monday 28th – Rayong Green Valley – Monthly Medal – White tees.
1st – Kenny Aihara (5) 66 net
2nd – Peter Rogers (22) 67 net
2nd – Bill Eyles (22) 67 net

Another Monday, another round at Green Valley of course, but today is the Monthly Medal! It is getting into the low season now but we still manage to fill up our 7 tee times here as the course is such a popular venue. The greens were lightly sanded today so for the first time in 6 months the conditions were not absolutely perfect. After a week all should be back on track but it is a necessary evil of greenskeeping, and this is the time of year all golf courses are doing it.

The game is on for our Antigua TGC shirt to the winner, and today saw Ken Aihara once again rise to the top with a net 66 to take home his Siam Orchid shirt as the April winner. Kenny was also our October 2013 Medal winner so this time ‘round he gets 2 stars on the shirt!

The colourful Peter Rogers was nattily dressed to include matching pink golf balls and tees and maybe that’s why he played to a net 67 on the day. Wild Bill Eyles matched that 67 to tie with Peter for second place, and coincidentally both played off a 22 handicap!

Wednesday 30th – Khao Kheow – Stableford – White tees.

1st – Kenny Aihara (5) 36 points
2nd – Phil Smedley (10) 31 points
3rd – Arthur Barbara (25) 29 points
3rd – Mike Gadsen (12) 29 points

Khao Kheow was in beautiful condition for today’s golf comp and the weather was warm but bearable. This is such a lush course now and great value for money, where else in the world can you play a Pete Dye golf course for 800 baht? Such a deal!

This is getting to be a broken record, but Kenny Aihara once again takes the top spot on the podium. His 36 points blew away the field and the closest player was our Captain Phil 5 shots back on 31! Ken is playing as good as he ever has but we lose him in 2 weeks as he makes his annual pilgrimage back to Japan for the summer. Well, at least he will give the other lads a chance to win!

TGC Golf Captain Phil Smedley with Kris Kritsanajootha.

We have been looking forward to playing here all month and Laem Chabang did not let us down. This is such a great golf course, great layout, great condition and all through May an amazing price of 2,050 for green fee, caddy and buggy for their anniversary special!

You forget just how pretty this course is and how entertaining the Jack Nicklaus design makes for a great day of golf. Laem Chabang has deservedly won a place on various lists of the best golf courses in all of Asia, and rightly so.

Our old pal Kris K. seemed to enjoy the day as he was the only golfer to hit the 40 mark and walk away with a pile of handsome man vouchers from Phil. I played with Les Cobain and watched him play an effortless round of 38 points for sole second, and well deserved I might add. We finished with a trio at 37 points to end the day in spectacular fashion. Remember, we return here at the end of the month on the 28th so sign up quick, you will not be disappointed.
