Big Steve Shoots Sub Par Round!
We departed The Phantom Bar at 8.15am for the longer drive to Bankpakong and found ourselves at the golf course just 54 minutes later. Our tee time was 10.00am so we had time for a few practice putts and on a glorious Monday morning we sent our first of 3 groups away right on time. The golf course was in great shape with lush fairways and well presented greens (maybe a bit too slick for the Reverend) and with a Thai 3 ball in front of us the going was a bit slow but we managed to complete the round in just over four hours.
One of my playing partners, Big Steve Truelove had his best ever round of golf in Thailand and was the winner with 44 points after shooting 71 off the stick. His first eight holes were par and then he capped it off by chipping in for eagle on the ninth and continued his consistency for the rest of the round. Christian “Psycho” Boysen returned to form and finished second with 43 points and Peter “Blacky” Blackburn was third with 40 points.
1st – Steve Truelove (7) – 44 points
2nd – Christian Boysen (14) – 43 points
3rd – Peter Blackburn (14) – 40 points
4th – Steve Truelove
16th – Torben Lindgaard
18th – Ed Wyckoff
Wednesday 28th October, 2015 – Burapha, A & B – Stableford
The Donkey Gets The Nod At Burapha!
With a fourball from Colin’s Golf Society joining us it gave us 4 groups to play one of our favorite courses, Burapha and with a tee time of 9.50am we got their with plenty of time to relax and have a few putts. A & B nines were the combination for the day which suited us as we have been playing C & D for the last few months. Our first group, a three ball got away on A1 five minutes early and with the groups ahead travelling quite well we were able to maintain a very good pace. We welcomed old friend Bill McGarvie from Canada who is here for a month and he celebrated his first time at Burapha with a nice birdie on the first to match my 3 inch tap in birdie on the same hole. Our third player, Steve Truelove had to settle for a par but it was a good start to the round. Not much to say about the condition of the golf course as it was as ever in excellent condition with the fairways lush and the greens beautifully prepared. It was a very enjoyable round of golf with the three of us playing quite well and the round was finished in the terrific time of three and a half hours.
Colin “Donkey” Davis stole the show by winning with a fine 42 points and Torben Lidgaard came second after scoring 39 points. Christian “Psycho” Boysen continued his good form by finishing third with 38 points and Mogens Mellander was fourth on 37 points.
1st – Colin Davis (19) – 42 points
2nd – Torben Lindgaard (31) – 39 points
3rd – Christian Boysen (14) – 38 points
4th – Mogens Mellander (30) – 37 points
A3 – Colin Davis
B8 – Dipty
B9 – Torben Lindgaard
Friday 30th October, 2015 – Silky Oak – Stableford
Psycho Boysen On Top Again!
It was a fine & sunny Friday morning as we headed off to the Green Valley complex to play the lovely Silky Oak Golf Course. The course is still somewhat a “work in progress” but with a full eighteen holes in operation it is now one of our favorites, particularly as the high season green fee price is very reasonable – other local courses please take note! Hearty welcomes were handed out to Arne Christensen & Svend Hommel Hansen, both from Denmark. We had 3 groups on the day and our first one teed off 10 minutes ahead of our 10.00am start time and we were able to maintain quite a good pace with very little “traffic” in front of us. The fairways were good and the greens, although a little on the slow side were quite firm and true. Our good pace was kept up and a very enjoyable round in fine weather although hot & humid was completed in a little over four hours.
The form player of the moment, Christian “Psycho” Boysen stole the show and was the winner with 41 points and for those wondering where his nickname came from then you need to have a game with him when he is not playing very well! In second place came Arne Christensen (19 point back nine) who beat Bill McGarvie (17 point back nine) into third place on count back after both had finished with 37 points. Special mention to one of our golfers who had 27 points on the front nine and followed it up with 7 points on the back nine! Not mentioning any names but his initials are Torben Lindgaard!
1st – Christian Boysen (14) – 41 points
2nd – Arne Christensen (15) – 37 points
3rd – Bill McGarvie (9) – 37 points
6th – Peter Blackburn
14th Ray Cody
18th – Gerry Hughes
