Thomas & Stuart Get The Chocolates At Bangpakong!

In the words of a well known Pattaya golfer “no-one will go to Bangpakong, Greenwood, Treasure Hill & Pattavia because they are too far away”. Well yesterday we proved that to be wrong as we had our best field for a long time who signed up to play the lovely Bangpakong. With 23 golfers on the Starting Sheet just less than half went by bus and the rest of them made their own way there and although Phil Davies took a wrong turn on the way he still made it in time for his tee spot. The course was reasonably busy and the weather was great as our first group got away right on time at 10.00am with some other groups a hole or so in front of us. Although there were a few areas on the golf course that were under repair and a couple of the greens were a bit “hairy” it was in very good shape with the fairways lush and a pleasure to play off. The pace was fairly good with minimal delays and most of our golfers completed their rounds in about four hours & fifteen minutes.

With the good numbers we were able to have 2 flights, 3 places in each and four nearest the pins plus two longest first putts. With a very good 44 points it was big Thomas Nyborg who won the A Flight from Andre Van Dyk two points further back in second place and “Jumping” Jack Grindvold’s 73 off the stick off his 3 handicap gave him third spot with 38 points. In the B Flight it was Stuart Mann who had his second win in a row with 41 points and with 2 golfers on 37 points a count back was necessary which resulted in Marcus Earp (21 point back nine) finishing second from Mogens Melander (19 point back nine) in third place.

Results:

A Flight – 0 to 17

1st – Thomas Nyborg (13) – 44 points

2nd – Andre Van Dyk (14) – 42 points

3rd – Jack Grindvold (3) – 38 points

B Flight – 18 & over

Wednesday 26th August – Treasure Hill – Stableford

John Tallett Gets The Treasure On The Hill!

1,050 baht for Green Fee, Caddy & Cart is a great deal especially for the challenging Treasure Hill course and we had 4 groups which travelled there on this day. We welcomed John Tallett playing with us for the first time and Mike Allidi having his first hit with us for quite some time. After a 50 minute drive we arrived at the course which was reasonably busy and we managed to get our first group away pretty much on time around 10.00am. I must admit with cloudy skies above it looked as if we might get a bit wet but as usual the rain stayed away and a nice breeze made it quite comfortable for playing golf. The golf course was in very good shape with the greens being well maintained and some of them fairly quick and although there were always golfers ahead of us we managed to complete our round in three hours & forty five minutes.

It was newcomer John Tallett who easily had the best score on the day in winning with 42 points and Stuart Mann kept up his good form and finished second with 38 points. Mike Allidi’s 74 off the stick was only good enough to earn him third spot with 37 points and Dave Edwards, slowly but surely hitting some good form again ended up in fourth place with 36 points.

Results:

 1st – John Tallett (27) – 42 points

2nd – Stuart Mann (23) – 38 points

3rd – Mike Allidi (3) – 37 points

4th – Dave Edwards (10) – 36 points

Friday 28th August – Plutaluang, South & North – Stableford

A Fine Win For Lehane At Navy!

Once more we had a decent turnout with four groups down to play Plutaluang and this time it was the South & North nines that were allocated to us. A big welcome back was handed out to Rona Carungay who has missed a couple of weeks with a thumb injury and it was great to see her back again. It was drizzling rain early but that soon stopped and the first group hit off just before our scheduled 10.00am tee time. The course was a bit wet after some overnight rain but the greens were in pretty good shape and generally the two nines were in good condition. The first group eventually caught up to a Thai six ball (T.I.T.) which slowed things down and the round was completed in around four & a half hours.

Dave Lehane was the winner on the day with a very good 40 points and with three golfers on 38 points a count back was necessary to determine the minor placings. This resulted in second spot going to Bernard Green (22 point back nine) with Peter Henshaw (17 point back nine) finishing third and Mogens Melander (15 point back nine) ended up in fourth place.

Results:

 1st – Dave Lehane (17) – 40 points

2nd – Bernard Green (28) – 38 points

3rd – Peter Henshaw (25) – 38 points

4th – Mogens Melander (33) – 38 points
