Takeshi Scrapes Home At Bangpakong!
There were only 14 golfers signed up for this day and I guess once more the extra distance puts some people off but it really is well worth the few extra minutes drive. We assembled at the bar and welcomed Harry Wszola from Queensland, Mark West back from Southend in the UK and PSC Social Chairman Nigel Cannon joining us once more. It was a slightly earlier departure time on this morning as we got away from the GS just after 8.15 am and headed off at a cracking pace, arriving at the course just 62 minutes later (it’s a 55 minute drive to Greenwood). Things were very quiet at Bangpakong and we were able to proceed to the first tee when we were ready which enabled our first group, a three ball to get away 10 minutes ahead of schedule at 9.50 am. It was very hot with just a suggestion of a breeze and the golf course was in magnificent shape except for the greens which had just recently been cored & sanded. No complaints though as we all realize it is necessary course maintenance and this being the low season is the best time to do it. We set a fairly good pace despite the oppressive weather conditions and a couple of stops for drinks were necessary & our round was completed in the very good time of four hours exactly. I must make mention of the Locker Room facilities at Bangpakong which are truly magnificent and if there are better ones around then please let me know.
With the smallish field we had just the one Division with 5 places and there were also rewards for nearest the pin on two of the par 3’s and longest first putt on the 18th green.
There were 2 golfers who had no trouble at all with the greens and scored 44 points each & the resultant count back saw Takeshi Hakozaki (24 point back nine) being declared the winner with John Davis (23 point back nine) in second place. Then came three players all with 39 points which meant another count back which saw Nolan “Notso” Wise (21 point back nine & 14 points on the last 6 holes) finish third from Mark “Westy” West (21 point back nine and 13 points on the last 6 holes) in fourth place and Nigel Cannon (19 point back nine) was fifth.
Results for Bangpakong:
1st –Takeshi Hakozaki (13) – 44 points
2nd – John Davis (15) – 44 points
3rd – Nolan Wise (36) – 39 points
4th – Mark West (13) – 39 points
5th – Nigel Cannon (25) – 39 points
4th – Alain Taddei
13th – Niall Stuart
18th – Alain Taddei
The Growling Swan NAGA Award, (awarded to the golfer who has the worst score on the day and discreetly their score is not made public) was once again won by Niall Stuart and he accepted the award like the good sport that he is and wore the cap for a considerable time in the bar afterwards. Gerd then kindly paraded Deefa the Dog and of course collected many donations for the needy in Pattaya from our generous Growling Swan Golfers. It was then back to the bar for some Aussie cold, low priced beers and the main topics of conversation were Notso’s 39 points (he kept bringing it up) and Niall’s nearest the pin on hole no. 13 (4 foot from the hole and walked off the green with a bogey!). It had been another quality day’s golf with The Growling Swan and many more to come.
