Growling Swan 26/03

Pattaya CC – 26th March, 2015
Happy Colonel, Happy Campers and a Happy Ending!

Mine host Peter Grey took great pleasure in announcing that we have a sponsor who has come aboard to sponsor “The Growling Swan Monthly Mug.” Peter Bass, who has been playing golf with us over the past couple of months, owns and operates Asia Backpackers.
We welcome Peter and his staff at Asia Backpackers and hope we have a long and fruitful relationship. Thanks Pete!

Expectations were high as 32 spritely golfers gathered for the Growling Swan, Monthly Mug event. Warm welcomes were extended to Glen Henrikson and Suwan (BKK). On the buses, all things golf were discussed and comic relief provided by Sandy Leiper who pledged to never again drink alcohol the night before golf. Sandy had a wee accident in the wee hours when he fell off his ‘stationary motorbike’ and his ribs and pride were dented.
The GS hadn’t played Pattaya CC since the completion of the luxurious clubhouse and we were keen to enjoy the new facilities and indeed, weren’t disappointed.
On arrival, everyone was personally welcomed! The check in was efficient and professional, whilst post- game, the restaurant staff were exceptionally efficient and complimented the delicious luncheon offerings. The management team are to be complimented and the level of service provided at Pattaya CC is second to none in the region.
The golf course has certainly improved gradually over the past year and it was clear that the recent deluge of rain has assisted greatly. On course, the weather was overcast and coolish, however, as usual, we had performance extremities. Bill Steinman, Alan Sanders and John Anderson enjoyed resounding wins in their respective grades and the Colonel completed his upcoming farewell in style to win the Monthly Mug. Eric Black, JC Lhoste and Mark Stapleton continued their rich vein of good form to ensure respective podium finishes.
After a tough day on-course, it was a happy ending for Rita and Kev Waycott when the donut cart arrived back at the Swan, whilst Niall Stuart appeared to be muscle-bound following his all too numerous errant swings.

Peter Grey farewelled Eric Black and JC LHoste, then announced the winners with great mirth. A great time was had by all!
For some serious golf with a dash of fun, come on down to The Growling Swan on Mondays and Thursdays!
