Green Pastures for Monley and the Muz

Yesterday was Makha Bucha Day, when millions of Thais’ dutifully paid homage to Buddha and his teachings. I respectfully asked my wife to pray for me. She came up with “May your balls lie in green pastures … and not in still waters”.
On a whim and a prayer, 28 golfers rocked up for the Growling Swan’s sojourn to Mountain Shadow. Greetings were handed out to Michel Catillon (returned from travelling), Rick Barnes (Scotland) Eric Incognito (Aust) and Su Wan (Thai). The compulsory sledging commenced early. Kev Waycott had been busy learning a Thai version of the hokey cokey. Not all of it, but he’s got the in’s and outs.
Normally golfing in Pattaya is generally a challenging and enjoyable experience on any given day, however today we hand out a bouquet and regretfully, a brickbat.

Bouquet: This well designed, popular course was presented in generally good condition, however, the consensus of concerns from our group is for it’s future.

Brickbat: Many caddies at Mountain Shadow appear to have had little training and are deemed to be very lazy. The bunkers are un-raked, divots aren’t replaced and some caddies general demeanor is poor. We wonder if any other golf outlet has noticed the same!
On the day we had another fine performance in A Grade from Sal Brizzi. Off his 6 hcp, Sal shot 76 off the bat for a ‘hands and heals’ win. Mark Stapleton snuck onto the podium to glean a few shekels to pay for his new motorbike.
Gary Monley is clearly enjoying his 27 hcp and blitzed his B Grade rivals. One wonders when the PSC will get their act together and upgrade the handicaps. They are outstanding as far back as mid February. Newcomer Su Wan and the ‘French Connection’ filled out the placings.
There were a few steady efforts and some regrettable. The weather was quite steamy and Russell Calcutt ended his day very flushed. He looked like he had just exited a self service massage parlour.
