PSC GOLF REPORT – GROWLING SWAN – STABLEFORD

Dobbsy and Stapo in good form.

Twenty four golfers gathered in Soi Chaiyapoon looking forward to the day’s challenge.
Pre game change room chatter included one gent claiming his game was as useful as a chocolate teapot.
Under overcast conditions it was decided to hit from the white markers so as to introduce some sanity into the game.
The fairways were quite heavy under foot and the greens as slow as a sloth doing backstroke through a sea of custard.
Gathering black clouds loomed on the horizon and as the first group hit off the eighth tee it bucketed down.

They and two other groups sought sanctuary in a nearby drink hut however the intermission was of only twenty minutes duration.
Welcomes were handed out to Tom “The Swedish Roofer” Ostergren, Keill Hagberg, Per Arne Sahlberg, Peter Longworth from Australia and Pattaya resident Peter Bass.

Colm Mullen and Don Richardson were farewelled both returning to Rory McIlroy country.
In the A grade there was a three way tie at the top on thirty nine points with Mark Stapleton winning from Ebrahim and Alan Taddei.
The B grade saw a bolter in Jerry Dobbs hand in forty two points whilst Jim Carlson and Alan Colonel Sanders both on thirty eight rounded out the podium.

B grade 19+
1st Jerry Dobbs (21) 42 pts
2nd Jim Carlson (20) 38 pts
3rd Alan Sanders (25) 38 pts

Near pins went to Mike Gosden on the fifth, Jim Groves eighth, Takeshi Hakozaki thirteenth and Peter Longworth seventeenth.
Long first putts were won by Jim Carlson on nine and Peter Grey on the eighteenth.

At the corner Tommy Ostergren’s score was so crook it belonged on the Grim Reaper’s xmas card list.
It didn’t improve on the flipside and he was delighted to collect “The Coveted Compass Cap”.

Deefa the dog collected many donations for the needy children of Pattaya and the punters are thanked for their generosity.
The GS is a friendly golf outlet and caters for and encourages all golfers male and female to have a hit at any of our weekly outings. We generally play Mondays and Thursdays at one of the many fine golf courses in and around Pattaya. Please contact Peter Grey if you are interested on 0861 503086.
Bowls
The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts. Bus transport departs the GS on Wednesdays at 10 AM to play at Cocos on undercover synthetic greens and on Sundays at the same time for open grass bowling at The Retreat. Please contact Paul Rennison on 0843 454005 if you wish to partake. The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out.
