Sunday 2nd July
St Andrews
A good turnout today for St Andrews playing a rainbow comp Yellow,White & Red tees. A lot of planning gone into this comp knowing which tee to play on each hole and most of it a complete waste of time, Play the longest holes off the red tees ? no that’s not the way to play it. We had 16 players with no near pins so that meant 2 flights with 3 places in each, Three players had 39 pts 2 in A flt and 1 in B flt. Rod Brown got off to a bad start on hole 1 but then dragged himself back into it with 15 pts on the front but then 24 pts on the back took him to the top of the podium, closely followed by Jeff Acheson with the same 39 pts but split 19/20 to lose the countback, then Gary Emmett a pay window specialist with 34pts and 4 blobs 20 pts on the last 7 holes. Then B flt John Dearden on a bit of a run of late on his least favorite course with 22 pts on the front & 17 pts back with only 2 pts for the last 3 holes , The smell of burning rubber drifted over St Andrews, Then surprise / surprise Aidan Murray at the pay windo with 32 pts and shots back on his hcp followed by new comer Tim Hicks with 31 pts. No near pins today because everyone was playing the par 3’s off different tees
A flt 1st Rod Brown (22) 39 / 24 pts
2nd Jeff Acheson (12) 39 / 20 pts
3rd Gary Emmett (16) 34 pts
Bflt 1st John Dearden (26) 39 pts
2nd Aidan Murray (25) 32 pts
3rd Tim Hicks (30) 31 pts
Monday 3rd July – Pattavia
A good crowd today for a Monday @ Pattavia ,We welcome back a few old friends Simon Spalding, Mark Hafferden , Chetan Patel , Vic Hester , Colm O’Donavan & John Harrison, Boosting our numbers to 15 players for a Monday excellent turnout enough for 2 flights & 4 near pins. The weather good and the course in its usual excellent condition and the management gave us at the end of the game a voucher for a meal or a drink which was much appreciated. But this did not stop the lad’s tucking into scotch egg’s & salad back at Colin’s Bar. Aflt was led by the silky smooth play of +1 Hcp Mark Hafferden who shot level par for 35 pts this followed by another new comer Steve Baker from Liverpool with 34 pts and 19 pts on the back just edging out Chetan Patel on count back. B flt was Neil Smith’s nephew Lee Smithoff the same hcp as uncle Neil (36) and showed him whose your Daddy with 40 pts, Barbara Coopermade her way to 2nd place again with 39 pts. The Near Pins were claimed by Colm O’Donavan x 2 Tip Briney & Manfred Hanke.
