Treasure Hill G.C. (Stableford)
A good turnout of sixteen golfers for our competition at the much improved Treasure Hill course. When we arrived at the clubhouse it appeared that we were the only golfers on the course, so we tee’d off at our leisure in overcast and relatively cool conditions. The round progressed smoothly with no rain and no holdups, although the temperature did start to rise as the sun broke through on the inward nine. With all the recent course renovations now fully settled in, the course is in great condition and always presents a good test of golf even from the shorter yellow tees which we elected to play off today. Following a recent slump, Thomas Nyborg rediscovered the form that won him May’s Golfer of the Month title, taking the winner’s spot with 37 points. Sean Murphy continued his run of steady form to take second place, two points clear of PJ Redmond.
1st Thomas Nyborg (hcp. 17) 37 points
2nd Sean Murphy (hcp. 16) 34 points
3rd P.J. Redmond (hcp. 29) 32 points
Near pins : Dave Jones, Paul Corner, Ken Young and Mashi Kaneta.

Green Valley G.C. (Medal)
It was a grey overcast morning with persistent light drizzle falling as we had breakfast at The Ranch, so it was no surprise that several golfers decided to stay in bed. The rain continued unabated during the trip to Green Valley, but it wasn’t heavy enough to deter our keen golfers and the first two groups tee’d off on schedule. One car (driven by Rab “The Navigator” McDonald) had however gone missing on the trip, and eventually ended up at Emerald golf club, making the return trip in time to tee off three holes behind the groups ahead. Eventually after six holes the skies brightened and the round was completed in cool overcast conditions which was great for the regular golfers, but newcomer Gordon Sutherland (making his first golfing trip outside Scotland) was heard to comment that although he thoroughly enjoyed his first round of golf here, the temperature was too hot – what’s he going to think when the sun comes out!! The rain didn’t have any serious effect on the condition of the course, and the greens were soft and receptive, if running a little slower than usual. The scores on the day were a little disappointing, and Mike Corner was able to record the maiden victory of his visit with a modest score of nett 74. Geoff Parker took second place a point behind despite a disappointing inward nine, finishing two points clear of playing partner Colin Greig who’s suffering from lack of practice whilst refurbishing his condo.
1st Mike Corner (hcp. 19) nett 74
2nd Geoff Parker (hcp. 14) nett 75
3rd Colin Greig (hcp. 7) nett 77
Near pins : Andy Brady, Geoff Parker, Gordon Sutherland and Paul Carey.

Greenwood G.C. (C and B courses) Stableford
Fifteen golfers today for our visit to Greenwood and when we arrived at the course (even Rab managed to find his way today!) the car park was virtually empty. It’s a slightly longer journey than normal, but the condition of the course is good and the current low season rate provides good value for money. The sky was bright and sunny, although the fairways were soft from recent rain, giving very little run, and making the course play even longer than normal. The round progressed at a steady pace with no holdups, but the final group did manage to fall a couple of holes behind. We were saying farewell today to father and son duo, Mike and Paul Corner, and Paul duly produced the best performance of his six game visit, to take the winner’s spot following on from Dad’s win on Wednesday. Ken Young took second place ahead of the ever consistent Gerry Cooney, and Sean Murphy, who was also playing his final game before heading back to Ireland, was unlucky to miss out on a podium spot. Tony Robbins had already secured the Golfer of the Month title, and despite a somewhat disappointing score on the day, still managed to take two near pin prizes as consolation.
1st Paul Corner (hcp. 13) 37 points
2nd Ken Young (hcp. 27) 34 points
3rd Gerry Cooney (hcp. 13) 33 points
Near pins : Geoff Parker and Tony Robbins(2)
