Bunker Boys 11/05

Monday, May 11, Mountain Shadow G.C.  Blue Tees — Stableford

The ayes have it. Make that the ” Bionic Eyes ” win it. Not only have Tony, Colin, and Mashi all had surgery to correct their vision, they all use a Rangefinder. First, Colin takes Golfer of the Month in April, and today at the beautiful Mountain Shadow G.C. Tony and Mashi both better their handicaps. Um !

For the first time in what seems like an eternity, we were able to play a round without thunder rumbling all around us. It was not such a good performance — 28 stableford average — for the 21 golfers that made the trip to one of the nicest tracks in the area. Jimmy Carr was able to hold on to his slim lead in the race for Golfer of the Month by posting 37 points to take third place in A-flight. He was beat on count back by ” Bionic Eye ” Mashi.

Wednesday, May 13, BangPakong G.C. — Stableford

A rainy day, a wet course, thunder all around, and 19 stalwart Bunker Boys braving the conditions. We weren’t sure if we’d be able to get our round in as it was coming down in buckets the last few miles on the long drive up north. Fortunately, the golf gods were with us and we only wound up with some really muddy shoes.

Two words you only want to whisper on the golf course — shank and yips. You sure don’t want to be using yips around Ian as he seems to have a real bad case of them. The last few rounds he’s been having a hard time dropping two foot putts. It’s so bad he’d make Gordon look like Jordan Spieth.

1st Geoff Parker (12) 37 pts

2nd Takeshi Hakozaki (14) 36 pts

3rd Stuart Tinkler (17) 35 pts

1st Colin Jones (25) 36 pts

2nd Ken Davidson (22) 30 pts

3rd Les Humphrey (24) 27 pts

Near Pins: Takeshi Hakozaki (2), Stuart Tinkler, Steve Durey

Friday, May 15, Eastern Star G.C. — Stableford

On a relatively cool day ( read not blistering hot ) our gracious host — Sir Buff — at The Ranch Bar made a celebrity appearance to post a not so pleasing 27 stableford points. As the saying goes ” drive for show and putt for dough “. In Buff’s case, he’s flat -stick- broke.

This track, especially when the greenskeeper seems to go missing, certainly has its naysayers among the Bunker Boys. Your scribe, on the other hand, has always had a soft spot in his heart for this course as he once had a hard / demanding discussion with one of the caddies. Yes, there was a resolution to the discussion and everything came out alright.

Geoff Cox was the man of the day being the only player to better his handicap. Taking first place with a very nice 39 points, he lead the field by six strokes. Geoff Parker was second taking advantage of ” the greens, though grainy, are in pretty good nick for ES ” to move ahead by a nose at the half-way mark in the race for Golfer of the Month. Jimmy and Ian fell a bit off the pace playing well below their handicaps.

1st Geoff Cox (15) 39 pts

2nd Geoff Parker (12) 33 pts

3rd Stuart Tinkler (17) 30 pts
