Another beautiful day welcomed all our visitors who wanted to play on one of the well kept and scenic courses in the area. The course as always was in pristine condition and could not be faulted with the greens true and quick. With all the water features around the course being full it made for that bit of extra challenge. Those two careful golfers who seldom take any risks, Mike and Geoff, played exceptionally well to beat their handicaps by one shot with Mike winning the count-back. Gordon who started showing form last week with a third place crept into poll position in the B flight beating Peter who won last week. It has been said that the only time Gordon leaves the fairway is to help other players find their ball in the rough.

Today was the day to try something different and 30 players turned up to play a better ball, something we had not tried before. It was decided that we would allocate transport to the course and once there do a draw of one A flight player with one B flight. This was done fairly quickly except that one group of four had got lost en route so they had to be drawn together, then writing down the names of the pairs and allocating tee off times took a little longer.Never the less we were soon on the course and making good time over the first nine holes when the field was confronted by a 5 ball and a 6 ball who had started before us but had gone for an extended lunch after which they had rejoined the field ahead of us. For the whole of the back nine we played hit and wait which proved frustrating. Mike and Paul shot scores that matched Jimmy and Geoff”s score and the count-back was only decided after ties on the back nine did not give any group the lead and only the first six hole count was able to give the win to Mike and Paul.

This course is in excellent condition and is a fair test of golf especially in the Medal format.Gordon was the big winner for the week claiming a win in the B flight and now completing the double by winning in the A flight.Geoff must be wondering when his luck will change but says he will not change his name like the Thai”s do to improve his chances. Torre led the field in the B flight and one of his playing partners was heard to comment that he played a thinking mans game and weighed up every shot and played percentage golf. Keith was only a shot behind and it looks like he too is coming into form and it is only a matter of time before he wins.
