The Golf Club 19/12
Freddy fires a 47!
Monday 19th – Green Valley – Stableford – White Tees
1st – Fred Birch (20) 47 points
2nd – Andy Makara (28) 39 points
3rd – Ed Junger (22) 34 points
Happy days, things are getting busier, the weather is perfect and scores are going crazy. Today, after 9 years on LK Metro, we had the highest Stableford number turned in by one of our regular guys who had the round of his life! And you know what? It could not have happened to a nicer guy.
Nobody else really had even a remote chance at Green Valley today, but that didn’t stop Andy Makara from soldiering on with an admirable round of 39 points for second. At third, Ed Junger was an amazing 13 points behind the winner, such was the podium discrepancy. Dave Ferris made an appearance as our Caddy Smile near pin winner, and by the way, many thanks to Dave for all his hard work helping out with scheduling those dental appointments for the ladies!
Fred Birch stole the show here today and 47 points was the incredible score that Fred turned in. Needless to say, everything was dropping as Mr. Birch had the round of his life and about time as well! Birch won at Emerald last week with a 40 pointer, so maybe that was just a warning shot across the bow! Great shooting out there Freddy, savour the moment.

Tuesday 20th – Khao Kheow B & C – Stableford – White Tees
1st – Alan Rothwell (6) 40 points
T -2nd – Howard Jackson (28) 35 points
T -2nd – Mark Lutherland (24) 35 points
It doesn’t get any better than Khao Kheow these days; the course was turned out magnificently. The B and C courses were our assignment today and once again we had fantastic weather out there.
Welcome back to Howard and JoAnn from Mandurra and a strong start to their holiday as Mr. Jackson snags 35 points on his first comp of the year. Mr. and Mrs. Lutherland also joined us today and Mark shot his way to a tie with Howard for second.
Alan Rothwell is a very consistent golfer, he had 2 second place podium slots last week and today takes his first victory of his trip out. We will be seeing more of the swing coach to Fred Birch on the podium I am sure! Nice going Mr. Rothwell, but did you have to rub it in and take the Caddy Smile near pin as well?
Thursday 22nd – Wangjuntra Highlands – 2-Man Scramble
1st – Ken Aihara / Phil Smedley (4.3) net 65.7
2nd – Mark Wood / Sugar Robertson (4.2) net 65.8
Friday 23rd – Wangjuntra – Jungle – Stableford – White Tees
1st – Phil Smedley (14) 41 points
2nd – Mark Wood (10) 36 points
3rd – Ken Aihara (5) 34 points
Road Trip! Our last venture on the road for 2016 had to be a good one. We have played here many times but never actually stayed the night and this option is one we can highly recommend. We had huge rooms in the hotel wing which was nice and close to their rec room for pool and foosball that followed our wine and cheese mixer on the Thursday night. Several ladies joined in on the tour and this course was ideal for the chance to get them out and see this amazing part of the Kingdom.
The team of Kenny Aihara and Phil Smedley took the trophy for the 2-man Scramble on the Highlands course by just one-tenth of a stroke! Mark Wood and Sugar Robertson were to be the bridesmaids (kind of a scary image, I know!).
For the singles, we chose the Jungle course and it was Captain Phil the victor with 41 Stableford points to beat Mark and Kenny. There are 3 courses here and the next time we will try the Valley course and let you know how it goes. Thanks to all for joining The Golf Club this week, and keep it in the fairway!
